ARRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Trust me - no one is more frustrated then I am..!!! The new circuits were supossed to be installed this weekend - so in the meantime, I feel like I'm trying to shove a basketball through a garden hose, with the existing limited bandwidth...

Anyway - it's a "catch-22"... When I slow down the e-mail list servers, the backlog of messages grows to about an hour queue... When I turn down the response times of the Forums - then these Boards get really SLLLOOWWWW... (so yes - I just disconnected the 15,000 folks who were browsing/camped on the Rennlist Classifieds (don't tell'em I turned them off on purpose for the next hour )

Anyway - work with me on this..... I spent this weekend getting everything set for the upgrade...

Best to all - and thanks for your patience!!!!

John

s*it happens..... If not now then when?? John, I support any downtime for future upgrades.

For any of you that have impatience for a slow board...please try administrating one yourself, perhaps after that you will understand that he is doing THE BEST THAT HE CAN!!!

As for the "debuggers" out there that kindly send a notification that a particular service is down or maybe not doing what it should, I'm sure that John is appreciative of this. He probably can not use/monitor all of the services simultaneously.

Thanks guys for the supporting words - but, yes - I'm tearing out my hair here ... To give you an idea of what's up back here - let me compare Rennlist of 2 months ago to what it is now.. Frankly - I'm not sure where the growth is coming from - but over the past month and a half specificially, here is where we "were" and are today...

The forums on a weekday took about 520,000 page views per day about 6 weeks ago. Now - they are close to 2,000,000 per day....

The classifieds about 2 months ago took only 12,000 visits in a day. Now I am supporting about 10,000 per hour..?

The e-mail lists have slowed a bit - but e-mail subscriptions are nearing 90,000 e-mail addresses - up nearly 10,000 from 2 months ago..??

The Gallery/Member websites/Racing site/FAQs/Tech areas have had similiar growth...???

Anyway - from my end, I expected some growth in 2003 of the sites, but it appears that someone turned on the faucet

Sooo - all the changes and upgrades and new circuits were planned for later this year, when they could be phased in as usage slowly increased - but honestly, I didn't think I'd need them until this Spring/Summer given historical growth stats over the last few years.... I guess my forecasts were way off...!!

Anyway - please know I'm doing the best I can back here - and all of your support is more appreciated then you may realize...!!!!!!

And an admirable job that is...

John maintains (and I think this is actually FACT now) the Largest Automotive Website in the world, and he does it for peanuts, and there isn't really a membership requirement to get at anything that you can't get to some other way for free. But - membership is a good idea.

Three cheers for Jen - and John.

Hi tecart and all...

Thanks again for your patience... The circuits should be in on the 18th and or 19th, based on my conversation just a moment ago.... It really can not be soon enough for me, either..!

To sflraver, Jay and Matt....

Yep - Jay has seen the "Rennlist Corporate HQ" - humble, yet proud In fact - Jay is too bashful to admit, but much of the donated hardware over the past years has come from him.. My thanks Jay...

As well - the Rennlist Members are now at about 3,000 - 3,100, according to Jen. About 6 months ago, we were at roughly 2,800 Members. Once this upgrade is complete - expect some neat things if you are a Rennlist Member - they are coming, it's just my available time which is putting a crunch in it just now...

To Matt - I dunno.... I just do what I do, if you know what I mean?? It's folks like you, who have posted to this thread - that are, indeed Rennlist and what it's all about....

My thanks for that......

Hey John, I'm sure everyone here is more than willing to wait for something as great as this site!

Good luck with getting all the stuff working, and echoing what was said before, hopefully all the increased traffic means increased membership!

Thanks Buddy..!!!

Now - if I can just keep my sanity over the next few weeks ..!!! Seriously - I'm thinking about a Newsletter (printed and an eZine), a Forum for Members Only for feedback, comments and topics. A Chat server with a bit of a difference - in other words, the ability to chat with a certified Porsche Service Technician or certain vendor tech reps (imagine an interactive tech discussion with a representative from an oil manufacturer - or a "Big Red" brake manufacturer - or a shock absorber manufacturer)...

Anyway - it's just pulling together the technology, the Rennlist "brand" and - of course - time to do it all....

My thanks again!
