Default Late DME and engine harness with early tach

Any info on how to make this combo work? I saw one post about some kind of filter that was required, but I'm not sure exactly what they were describing.

Engine is '86 USA with its DME and harness. The tach connector from the DME is a red 2 male spade pin. Car is an '82 euro.

Thanks for any help

make a jumper for both wires. The early car harness uses a plug as well, but the connectors are different. Just look at the wires and connect them. I run an early tach in my early chassis, but use a late harness. I could have spliced, but chose to make a couple connector wires. I have not had any issues in nearly 10 year of racing like this.

The only thing you have to do is use the early harness. I have done engine exchanges, putting late engines and dme's in early cars before. Tach always worked with no problem. If you have a even later engine with the oil level pick-up, just use the harness off of a 87 or 88 924S. Anyway, the tach is ran off of the DME.

Bummer, looks like the VW guys have become more useful than rennlist! Could you share your solution? I am having the same problem using an early tach on a late wiring bundle.

I found that nothing special was required. My tach died recently, but I'm assuming it was some other problem not related to the early/late mix. The tach gets its signal from the coil, nothing fancy.

Tach should work with no problem. I have done several swaps putting late engines in early car. I use the late dme, airmeter, and injectors. I use the early fuel rail, and dme harness. Just got done putting a 88 engine and dme in a 83 tub.
