Talking Parking your porsche

Everytime I go out to a mall, or somewhere else, I tend to park the car the farthest away from the entrance because people are real ********* these days. They usually try to key your car, or some *** pushes his shopping cart right next to your car. I went to the mall the other day, and I parked my '24 at the last parking lot, about a two hr walk to the entrance of the mall, and when I come back, I found a '87 944 Turbo parked next to me. Does anyone that sort of stuff happening to them?

I try to park far away from everyone else too, if I can. If I can't, i'll try to park next to the nicest most expensive car I can find. For this reason, I generally don't take the car when I need to go into a mall or busy parking lot.

You can also help to avoid door dings by:

-parking on the passenger side of cars (all cars have drivers, not all have passengers)

-parking next to four-door instead of two-door cars

-parking next to nice cars (duh)

If you drive your car often, you're inevitably going to get some rock chips and door dings. But at least you can try and reduce the odds of it happening.

Thumbs up

I do the same, and the same thing happened to me yesterday at Home Depot (as mentioned in another thread). I parked the 44 in no-car land, and when I came out, a sweet 9** CS was parked in front of me, nose to nose. My wife said--"Awwww...look, they're kissing"

Gotta park away from the crowds. Unless it's pouring raining, it makes total sense to spend another 15 seconds walking to prevent dings!

$8,000 car or not, it's still a Porsche!

I always try to find a spot right next to a curb with prickily plants just beyond the curb, next to another nice car (911,944,924,968,928,PCA members, prefered), or just take up two spaces (really ticks some people off). Yesterday, I parked next to a beautiful cabrio 911 at HomeDepot way out in the lot. lol.

I park in a corner, by an island, or by the nicest car but mine. I also figure in drivers swinging wide or skidding while selecting the "right" spot. Trouble is, I do this with all my cars... not just the Porsche. kinda irritates the family...

They really need to speed up research on force-fields, so we can stop worrying about where we park!

Always park next to another nice car. Thats what I try to do. Otherwise, park next to nobody.

Does anybody else fear curbing their rims as bad as I do? I always have to adjust my pass. side mirror down to see where the curb is when I am parallel parking, and I take like 5 or 6 foward and back motions to make sure I don't get too close. I feel like an old man...maybe I need curb feelers.

If I see another Porsche I will park next to him if there is a space available, or another German car so they can reminisce about life in the fatherland. I will do the same thing with my VW too although I'm not sure it it's Spanish is too good when arount the later Jettas and new beetles.

"or just take up two spaces (really ticks some people off)."

I always try to key or ram people who use two spaces in a lot. Same with those who use family or handicapped spots. No wonder some people think Porsche drivers are jerks.

i always try to park next to an island or at least at the end of a row so that only one parks next to me. i used to park at the mall everyday and it still wasn't uncommon for me to have a new door ding once a week.

ribs - i always have to adjust my pass. side mirror when i parallel too...but i'm not yet in need of curb feelers

Hey - I mentioned to Steve Petty (Rennlister) a while back that I was really impressed with Adam Richman's (Rennlister) Acura CL in that when you selected reverse the passenger side power mirror moved down to show the rear wheel and curb for parallel parking convenience.

I think Steve mentioned it to Martin Taylor (Rennlister, Window Express, a better AF Ratio gauge, etc.) who was going to look into the possibility of adapting the concept to the 944 mirrors...?

Just thought I'd mention that...

re: curb rash: The wide side walls on some tires (like Bridgstone RE730s for example) make rim rash almost impossible.
