What's the word on bigger sway bars?
At the autocross today I was talking to an SCCA veteran who owns a 1996 BMW M3. He's putting about 250 horsepower to the tires and is running 600# front coilovers and 800# rear coilovers. Here's the interesting part: he plans to reduce the size of the rear sway bar and substitute firmer springs to make up for the reduced stiffness...
Reason why: he's got a Quaife LSD and he says it won't put any torque to the inner wheel right now under hard cornering because it's getting no load. By installing a smaller sway bar and using a firmer spring the inner wheel won't be lifted off the ground as much. I'm getting close to doing my first round of suspension work, and one of my first choices was a set of cup sway bars. Hearing what this guy is saying should I keep the standard 968 sway bars?

Well, it all depends on what you are going to do with the car. He sounds like he is more interested in track performance than street performance......and this post had no sub-intentions to steer you in the way of my cup car sway bars on ebay.

I remember seeing an E36 M3 lifting its inside front tire 6"+ at an autocross several years ago. I was flagging and the guys friends were at the same station. They were talking about how the guy just upgraded his front sway bar.
Holy understeer batman!

You don't have the cup bars, those are 968 M030...I can pick up a set of those for about half of your 'buy it now' price.

The big difference between this guy and yourself is that he already has a highly modified suspension, and is trying to tweek it a little, while you are looking for round one, on a totally different car. Stick with the normal program, maybe round two will involve changes, maybe it won't. You also didn't mention what size bar the guy is removing, it might be the size of your forearm and he's replacing it with one that's only a little smaller.

I'll be looking to get a set of swaybars soon. Where can the 968 M030 be found? Are they any better than the cup swaybars?

Those are the 968 bars like he has on Ebay. Cup bars are hollow 30mm front bar and 21mm three way adjustable rear bar. Danno, I left a message...call me.

I was under the inpression the cup rear was 19mm, I will measure it tomorrrow. If mine is 19mm, and not 21mm, than I have a bone to pick with windward.................If you guys are interested, I will let you know.

Okay here is the deal, the original cup rear bar was 21mm, porsche changed this about fouryears back and used a stiffer material that measured 19mm, but was just as stiff as the 21mm while bieng lighter than the original. Please evryone feel free to do your own research......by the way the $550 is just the buy it now, I can tell you the reserve is WAY less than that.

What's your source for this info? Sounds interesting but I want to be sure.

I have never heard this...Shwartz sells the Cup car bars as Trevor Describes the front sway is hollow as well. They run $750...
I think they are pulling your chain...Mo3o bars which are still available at the dealer run 1/2 as much and are still available. It sounds far fetched to me...Did Windward tell you this?
1998/99 is 4 years ago who made this change 3 years after the last front engine car was built. Sounds fishy to me...I would fuss over this with them if they sold these to you for more than the Mo3o bars.
