I don't know any details, but there's a 944 in NJ with plates that read '944 NOS'. I have tried getting his attention when I go by his house or when I'm in the area, but I haven't been able to get in touch with him to talk about his car.

I know this doesn't help at all, but I have heard of others who've put NOS in their 944.

Interesting, though it does say not to use a chipped car as that detonation may occur. this seems it is used strictly for a stock car.

yeah i am really curious if anyone has done this, because the 944 has pretty much anything you want, with the exception of off-the-line power, and a part-time thing such as NOS, if not too expensive, wouldn't be a bad solution

We used a 50HP NOS kit with the 83 944 NA engine. It was an easy install and worked very well, you get a lot of extra power with the push of a button. While the car is original when the switch is off. We strongly recomended such a kit for the occasional red-light racer. For racetrack use it is no good due to the recuired refills of the NOS bottle.

When we added the second system (60HP), making it 110 extra HP total (against 163HP stock). It really kiked ***. Due to the engine not having knock sensor we did run with detonation for some time and blew a piston.

Nitrous makes the biggest bang for the buck ever!

did you have any problems with the 50HP kit in the NA 944?

also, were any other modifications needed besides the kit itself to make the car mechanically safe and sound?

The 50HP kit was a total bolt-on. It worked fine with no problems. The only downside is that you will get addicted and soon need more power.

50HP might not seem as a whole lot, but nitrous doesen't gradually build up power to peak out at 50+ HP at redline, it all dumps in your lap at 3000rpm giving you enormous torque all the way to redline.

At that time the car was an original 83 944 with 17" rims. here is no doubt in my mind that these cars handle that kit for a long time just as long as the car is being taken care of.

No, we are not dealers of any car related product. Just car enthusiasts. I assume you have been to www.nosnitrous.com

Good luck!

just checked summitracing and they have the kits for 499.95. Pretty cheap if you want to mess with nitrous. Be sure to check out this page to see what could happen with a problem with the system. http://www.healthyhome.net/nitrousexpress.htm

Well now, that's not really anything to be conserned with. You are more likely to be hit in the head with an anvil while driving on to a freeway.

That is not possible with a bottle that have a safety blow off valve (almost all new bottles are fitted with that). Even if the valve fail, you have to heat/overfill the bottle very much for it to explode.

You're fire extinguisher (or any other high pressure container) might also explode like that if heated properly.

Unfortunately, they took the photo off that website. Probably due to litigation issues with Nitrous Express.

Fortunately, I saved those photos before they disappeared:

I think I've heard of one bottle exploding, but about 50 times on 30 different websites, and it's the same car! I think too much hype has been given to one incident, theres far more torched pistons around and ventilated blocks due to rods letting go with the extra torque. My only advice is to ensure your engine is in good health BEFORE you install Nos, it's not meant to make a bad engine good, just a sound engine more efficient. you may also want to get a retard unit for the timing and remember that when you hit the button there will be a positive pressure in the manifold and that will blow the vacum unit on the dizzy so disconnect it.
