so here are some pics of the floors finally looking decent, a couple more days on the front floors, and it should be good for welding/primer/paint

I found it very easy, spray Xylene, or Un-Goo, leave on overnight, scrape a little with the putty knife; spray again and leave overnight - scrape some more; spray again and leave overnight - and the stuff comes off fairly easy

the orange marks that may look like rust, is not rut :lol:

after the puty knife, either more Xylene, or right now I'm using Kerosine and a towel - and the rest comes off fairly easy

I'd go outside and scrub for 15mnts-1hour and then take an hour break from the stuff; also, this may sound dumb - but I'm not using gloves or a mask, but I am used to chemicals much worse then this; car is outside, everything is wide open, and our garage is on a windy side so its "ventilated" enough for me; but I would recomend to use gloves/mask

once its stripped, its getting primered and painted and that might be it

I was going to ask if anyone ended up using some kind of track mats or something?

also, that brown epoxy stuff - I am going to leave that stuff alone where it runs along the edges of the floor, however, would it be allright to "scrape" it off from those spots in the middle? its coming off in some spots where it got cut/caught by the putty knife

its looking really nice, I got half-gallon of Kerosine left for tomorrow

Seems like we have the same objective. The best possible track day car that can be driven on weekends and driven to-from the track legally and somewhat comfortably. For example, I intend to keep my A/C in and functioning, and will have some sort of radio.

I have done my suspension work and I'm now thinking about ways to make it lighter. If I stripped the insulation, I would probably put some sort of carpeting back into it. But before I do that, I think I'm going to buy GT Racing fiberglass bumpers. That should save 50 lbs, and will take the weight from the right place (the ends of the car).

get all the safety stuff taken care of, take it to the track and see how it does, then plan my suspension/brake/wheel/tire mods after that

for the winter, I'm paning to get fiberglass stuff too - bumpers, fenders, hood

I've seen now 2 944's that are local and stripped, and it looks like something I can/want to do, so BOOM goes the dynamite!

I've also chatted with Chad and after seeing pics of his car, I said "wow!"

my family is still wondering wtf I'm doing with it now, my mom already said "so after you take all that out, just call the junk yard so t hey come over and pick up the rest of it"

all in good fun though, they support me

Mine came out to 25 lbs or so. I used a screwdriver to scrap off all the seam sealer crap too.

I've been thinking about doing this as well. My car will need some paint work soon enough anyway.

Do the bumpers really save 27lbs each?? Any ideas on how easy the installation/fitting is for these parts? I wonder what you can save through the bumper shocks. I remember Van build some replacement bumper shocks from aluminum. I forget the weight savings though.

yeah I don't remember those weights but, a few pounds here and a few pounds there and it really will add up in the end

there is not much to do on these cars; I'm sure I won't touch anything like exhaust or whatever, untill the stock one falls off or needs replacement

also, all this stuff about weight savings for the car - I should think about some kind of a diet too

for the bumpers - fiberglass pieces are less then 5lbs, so its A LOT, throw in the hood/fenders in there and you shave off good 100lbs (probably)

I was also thinking of going to a 15" wheel - maybe even Cookie Cutters, thoughts? where can I get weights on stock wheels?

Definitely stick with your wheels instead of going to cookie cutters...
