Default Buying a 944... unsure what to do with it

About 11-12 years ago I sold a buddy of mine my 85.5 944, I was replacing it with a 951 at the time.

My friend has had the car all these years, it has been driven very little in the past couple of years, hell I have not even seen the thing in a LONG time.
He was going to trade it in on a new car just to get rid of it when I stepped in and said, NO!!! So I am buying it back.. for what the dealer would have paid.. suffice to say its cheap enough.

Car has 153K miles, Flat guards red over black, 5 speed.
Paint needs help, little dent in the nose and one in the rear.
Drives pretty good, would probably do the belts to be safe asap.

I have to many cars as it is but was thinking maybe make it a track car. or clean it up and sell.... I do love 944's!

And here I am back on the ol 944 forum!

I think I met your wife before you two married, and now you've got a cute daughter-what have you been putting into her coffee the last couple years to get her to agree? Did Raj give you the secret formula?

Heh.... I bought her a nice Audi this week

I don't know how she puts up with my car antics!

Going to have to store this thing at my friends house, I am just about out of space, My driveway/Garage only holds 5 cars comfortably!

Hey welcome back. I knew you'd be back. They all come back. Even James Caan.

Hey Marc...welcome home...er...ah...back !

I agree...strip it out and turn it into a DE car !

There's an instructor in NNJR who drives an early NA ....I think in the red run group (Zoltan would know)....he's unbelievably fast too....all momentum !

Do it ! Besides...I'd love company at the track !

Roman, the Saab needs to stay, 2 German Short haired pointers and a baby seat ain't gonna cut it in the 944

Tom, Sig updated!

Joe, My friend whose house I am going to keep it at for now has been recruited as a partner in crime on this car. so it's Race/DE/AutoX car fore sure!
The plus is he is an excellent mechanic!

Back where I started all those years ago heh...
This is just going to make me want a 951 again...uh-oh

Strip the interior....install a bolt-in roll bar....fresh koni's all around...and a good tune-up/belts.

Then go have fun !

See if you can do it in time for Thunderbolt in July !

yep, you are severely and seriously and most definitely S C R E W E D!

You already broke rule number 1 -
Never assume anything to do with a 944 will be cheap.

Then there is rule number 2

Yep rule number 2 is post what you do so other masochists can join you in your misery err i mean joy of 944 ownership.

I say just drive it to the track, on the track and home. at the end of the season decide if you want to sell it to a kid or make it into a track car. i wouldnt take anything out or apart until the summer is over and you know where you want to go with it.

Funny part is that if you strip the interior (sell it on ebay if it's in good shape) and set it up as a cheap DE car it might actually be worth more than if you just leave it as-is.

My S2 cost me money to get back into proper shape...but aside from the nagging little stuff that relates to it being a 20yr old car it's not at all a maintenance nightmare.

If you do really get the itch for a 951...there is a guy in Colorado who has a BEAUTIFUL one that he's going to get rid of because he's mad at 944's !
