Timing belt and water pump questions...
I have come to the conclusion that the only way to get the seal out of the water pump is to remove the WP. To remove the WP, I must remove the Timing Belt. The car has 115,000 miles. Timing belt and balance belt were replaced by previous previous owner at 93,000 miles. WP has never been replaced.
Do you think it is worth it to change these since I have to pull it all apart anyway?? Bear in mind that I originally set out to replace the thermostats due to an overheating issue, and both thermostats tested ok.
I'm thinking: New timing belt, balance belt, rollers, waterpump. Is there anything else I need? Anyone have these part numbers handy, or recommend a place to get them?
Please give me your opinions so I know what to order. Thanks.

You might as well replace the belts if your there anyway. The assed pieece of mind. I would also reseal the front of the motor. If your front seals are not leaking they will leak eventually and it only takes an extra 20 minutes to replace them once you have the water pump off. I think Pelican and Vertex sell the re-seal kits for about $60 bucks.

Just posted to your other thread. I did not know that you had 115,000 on that pump. Definately replace the pump while you are in there, and it will take care of that pesky rubber grommet.
If the rollers had never been replaced, I would do them as well. 90,000 is about all the further you should go on a set. Call Jason at Paragon, or Paragon Web Site to get the stuff out to you. I did mine in the 1st rebuild, and it was not that expensive at all.

The water pump will cause more problems than what it is worth if it locks up, strips your timing belt, valves go flying and so on.
As for the rollers, see my thread from yesterday.
Why didn't they run the water pump from the balance shaft belt????

I just did all of that to my '87 a month ago (in addition to other stuff). You may want to replace your seals also since you are there. Take a good look at them. If they are leaking do them !!!!

Jax I'll get you those part numbers by this evening for your 88 951. I have all of them for my 86 951 but I better check and make sure their the same for the 88, probably not since you have auto-tensioner. I'll be doing my waterpump and belts in a week when my 3 week vacation starts. I'm trying to pull together everything I need. Perry951, does paragon have waterpump/belts/rollers/seals and just not show them on their site? I would prefer to get everything from one source if possible, pelican seems to have the majority but not the rollers...
Thanks guys

Heh, Jax951, you might not need all of those parts, I gave you the part numbers anyway, most of the items are just seals, the rollers and waterpump are the most expensive parts I would assume. It looks like the 87 onward has one more roller than the 86 and previous because of that auto-tensioner.

Jax ... I just ordered everything to do this job myself (water pump, rollers, belts, seals). I think my total was around $650. I got a new dist cap, rotor, and some other random stuff too. If you are going to the trouble of pulling it all off you might as well replace it now.
