I spent the holiday taking of a whole bunch of crap off my car to take off some weight. When I removed the front plastic fender liners I found a strange thing behind the left fender of my 951 and don't know what is is. It looks like a large cylinder (cannister) with several hoses attached. I have a feeling that it may be a drier or moisture seperator for the A/C system. Since I no longer have an A/C (nor fans or anything else for that matter) can this be removed? What is involved? What the hell is it? Get it off my car!!!

If it has to do with emissions I don't care. The car is no longer registered and only drives on the track. What the hell is an evaporative emission cooler anyway and how do I take it off? I don't even have a cat on my car. WHat do I need to cap off if I take this off. It may already be de-activated or unused but I'm not sure.

Merrrry New Year!!! Vait a minute, it's the 4th of Juwwy? Vhy is it everyone stops partying at midnight around here anyway? Let's keep the fun going!
Kelly, go ahead and chuck it!!! That canister absorbs gas fumes that evaporate from the tank when your car is off. Then when it's properly warmed up, a valve opens and feeds the fumes back into the engine's intake. You can remove that canister and every hose and valve that's hooked up to it.

Yep, OK to remove for a track car; function is per Danno... but you need to be sure that the line bringing the vapors from the tank is safe... I don't know if you can just plug it, since I think this is the tank's only vent. It'd be a bitch to have yet another 944 roast...

Thanks Jim and Danno! I will start by tracing all the lines back as far as I can to see where everything goes. If I have any more problems I will post for HELP!
