Default Finding oil leak

Hello

I have a 1987 Turbo with 80,000 miles and recently have had all of the pulleys, balance shafts, belts, seals, water pump replaced and I have the smell of burning oil while driving the car. I have had a mechanic from the Porsche club try to find the leak with no success

I would greatly appreciate recommendations

Best wishes

Is it possible that the cork gasket at the back of the cam tower wasn't replaced? Its a known leaker, and likes to leak right down onto the exhaust. Take a look/put your hand back there and see if its covered in oil.

I too did all that work, including the rear cam cover gasket and still have a leak. I put the car up on ramps and used some brake clean to clean the entire underside of the engine (again) so I could clearly see where the leak is coming from. Took it for a good long drive and then put it back on the ramps. Left the car running (make sure you block the rear tires and use the hand brake) and got under the front end to see if I could spot where the oil was coming from. Mine was leaking from the oil presure sender (the actual body where the steel rolls into the plastic), the oil cooler line unions and the oil cooler housing where it meets the block. I have ordered a new oild pressure sender and will tighten the lines, but the oil cooler housing gasket may have to wait. The weather is much too nice. Need to drive!

yea i would suggest cleaning the entire engine exterior and then see where the oil is coming from.

likelyhood oil pan gasket too. and rear main would drip onto the exhaust manifold. that's where mine was burning.

I would also suspect the oil pan gasket or rear main seal. Unfortunately either one of these is a major job to replace (I did both over the winter)...

Yes, the small cork gasket where the rear cam cover bolts to the tower is easily replaced. Lucky you!
