Post fuel rail help

Getting ready to replace my fuel rail (has leak). Got a used one in good condition, but upon closer examination, it does not match the one on the car.

My current one has the fuel feed line going into the end of the rail, the one I got has it going into the bottom of the regulator via a brass "J" tube. It looks like the fuel line would be too long to attach to the brass tubing.

Looking at the photos in the Haynes manual, it shows one like the replacement one, with the inlet on the bottom. What could be on my car?

I've got a call into the guy I bought it from to verify the year model etc. Thought maybe someone here has experience with this.

Mine is a 1984 944 N/A

Here's a picture of one on eBay that is for the Turbo.

Sounds like what you're describing, and I can confirm this is what mine looks like. I'm assuming the NA is different given your description, or there's a variation with the '85-1/2 up models versus the '83-'85.

No, mine doesn't look like that at all.

Go here:

Not a great pic, but you can see the old one on top with the inlet in the upper left. The "new" one is below it and shows the brass inlet.

I'm guessing these are just two slightly different versions of the same thing. I looked at the diagrams in PET, including for the 924, 924S, and early and late 944. The early 944 is the only car that has this style rail, and the illustration is the same for '82-85. However, PET does list two different part numbers (944 110 080 04 and 944 110 080 07), suggesting there may be a variant.

I don't want to lead you in the wrong direction, but maybe you can transfer the hard lines or otherwise route the fuel to fit using your new rail?

Hope that helps.

Guess I'm still new...what's PET?

With what I'm left with fitting wise, I don't see any swapping possiblities. The end of the hose from the fuel pump/tank has a male fitting that's not compatible with anything on the "new" rail. Short of an adaptor, which with the fittings being flared, are probably remote.

It is best that I have it apart and un-driveable. I've been running around with this little leak, ( is there REALLY such a thing as a SMALL fuel leak ) This will keep me from toasting my car till I get it fixed

There are different fuel rails on the early and late 944's according to the haynes manual. Where are the damper and fpr located on yours? both in the back? the newer ones have the damper in the back and the fuel pressure regulator in the front... if my info is wrong though, sorry

If your replacing the fuel rail, you should also do the FPR and Dampener.

Also,
Rebuild your fuel injectors since they are already out.
