Post WTF!!! The hose for my 924 popped!

I was driving normally, and my car was driving after awhile of sitting in the driveway. I was driving on the highway doing the normal 70-80mph, and the car was overheating because of the freaking 108 degree tempature outside. As soon I took the exit into the other town, you can see the heat coming from the hood of the car. The first thing I did was pull over, and a cop started giving me b/s for parking in a NO PARKING SECTION. So I gave him the excuse and him gave me the option of taking the ticket, so I left. I got into my hometown, and parked the car to check it out. But as I was driving the car was making a weird whistling sound. So I put the car in park, and I got out, as soon as I got out, I heard a explosion and the hood starting smoking like it was on fire. I immediatley shut the car off, popped the hood, and their was anti-freeze all over the floor. At that point I started ****ting in my pants, and I was about to start crying.. I looked inside the hood, and the I found a freaking hose that popped in the middle! So I had to call my dad. I called the old man, he gave me some b/s, and he went to the nearest auto store, and bought a new hose, and we changed it. After that the car worked fine, but I was ****ting my freaking pants! My dad told me it was caused because of the overheating, but wtf, isn't their a way to keep the car cool? Also, I was trying to get the A/C to work, but I couldnt figure out how in the hell to get it working, so I said screw it.

Plus, I just got back from playing basketball, it seems the weather was cool outside, but hot. The thing is the tempature meter was past the freaking RED section.. what the hell is going on? I shut the car off, and it went down somewhat, than after I started driving it went past the red section again. Any idea what's going on??

Check to make sure both fans are running when the car gets really hot...

Did you bleed the system after you changed the hose? Maybe a big air pocket in the system...

Maybe the thermostat isn't opening fully...

And finally don't **** your pants

The car was sitting in my driveway for a month or so, but I turned it on once and them to get the car going.. Anyway, I have no idea what is going on.. the car's temp stat is going past the redline on the meter, and it's scaring the **** out of me. I'm scared to go over 30mph because I might have to replace another water hose. Can someone please give me a list of things gone wrong? How the hell do I make sure the fans work? And how do I bleed the system?

It's been what, 2 hours since the original post?

GIVE IT A LITTLE TIME.

You're not gonna get anywhere whining.

How do you check if the fans are working? Well, what you do is stick your head under the hood and look at the fans...they will be right behind the radiator....if they are both spinning you are OK.

How to bleed the system? I'm not exactly sure how its done on an N/A, but someone else will let you know or the answer is probably in the archives.

DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR IF THE TEMP IS IN THE RED, much worse things than a busted cooling hose will happen...like a blown head gasket, warped head...consider yourself lucky that a hose blew and not the head gasket!

Also, try searching the archives.

Everybody in the world can give you advice but if you don't do something, nothing will get done.

I'm scared I'm going to break something else. Isn't their some type of product that cools down the engine? Time is of the essence now. I'm no rich kid, and I can't afford to put maintence into the car. I drive the car normally, I've never abused it, not even on the highway. I'm never going to be able to drive the car if this **** continues. OMG!! THIS SUCKS!! . The car is awesome, perfect for me, but I can't afford to fix it up. Maybee someone that lives close to me can help me out with this problem.

I put antifreeze in but I dont think it did the job. I know I've seen a commerical on TV with the police officers not chasing speeders because of the high heat, would that help out on my car? or it total b/s? I'm clueless when it comes down to this car stuff. Also, if anyone has AOL or AIM, shoot me a IM to: ar naf

Amaf, you just wanna be like Craig don't you?

Redline water wetter HELPS, but if its blatantly overheating like that, nothing will help except for fixing the problem.

If you can't do what people tell you and you don't know what to do yourself, then you better just take it to the mechanic. Maybe have your dad helped you, he seemed to know what he was doing.

It won't fix itself afterall.

50/50 water & coolant mix is good...water conducts heat better than coolant, but not enough coolant and the water will boil.

first calm down
second don't drive the car.
Third calm down
forth find some one who knows cars to help you.

Your car is fixable but wont be if you keep driving it.

I will forewarn you these cars are like pissed off women. they take allot of attention and very temperamental

To bleed a 924 N/A first open the hood. Look for the hose coming of the thermosat housing. It's the hose at the very front and at the top. It should have a little branch off it with a red plug. This plug it held in place by a small hose clip. Loosen the hose clip and remove the plug - don't do it when the car's hot. Fill the radiator header tank and then start the engine, idle the car at about 1000rpm and air an water should eventually start coming ou tthe hole. When it's all water put the plug back in.

If little water comes out it sounds as if your water pump has crapped out. From your describtion of the events I'd say it's highly likely it was the pump.

Also if you don't have the hose with the plug. Go to the nearest Porsche supplier (after market or agent and get one) without this hose you cannot bled the system and you will run the risk of overheating again and destroying the engine.
