anything around 10 grand for any kind of 87+ 944 with under 70k miles isnt that bad, yeesh.

i mean, im as cheap as the rest of you but you rennlisters really like to downplay the value of 944s in the real-world market. whats the saying, its worth what someone is willing to pay for it?

..although he does only have a 2.5L and carfax says theres 13 records.. eek

maybe his reserve is 5 grand?

And I doubt automatic 944s have much of a demand.

I've always joked that having an automatic sports car, specially a Porsche, is sacrilege. Are automatics actually "rare" or is it just an ebay gimmick?

I would agree that autos are rare, but that doesn't mean people want them. I don't know numbers but relative to the number of cars the number of automatics should be small.
But even if they only made one they made one too many.

About a year ago someone listed a NA 944 in our local newspaper for $9000 firm. Basically, the car was just a clean unmolested example of an NA, not a garage queen by any means.

I think that the best NAs can bring in the $9-10k range, assuming they find the right buyer. It might take a while to sell, but eventually a Porsche enthusiast would see what the car was worth. We all know that the cheapest 944s are really not cheap at all (when you factor in the maintenance to restore a neglected car).

Thumbs down

Lay off the autos for Petes sake. Not every 944 owner is out to race, autocross, or otherwise outrun everyone on the road!!! I bought an auto by choice. Two major reasons...I drive in stop & go city traffic 5 days a week, while holding my coffee, cell phone, or note pad. Also, my wife can drive it without destroying a clutch every year. The car looks 85% new, has 75K miles on it, and will still put your *** into the back seat when I put my foot through the floorboard.
Autos wher made to cruise, and anyone who wants a racer should not buy one.
And the Boxter I'll be ordering will have a Tip for the same reasons. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

I cant help but agree...I was really considering an auto until I ran across my 951. Same reasons...An auto is much more relaxing as a daily driver.Call me old, but hey...Auto's are fine with me.

Well, to each his own. I just don't like the idea of an automatic sports car. I'm not gonna start a nomoreautomaticporsches.com or anything. They're just not my taste.
p.s. I also agree that an auto is more relaxing.

I agree. daily driver and automatic is fine.. also my ex-wife would have burned the clutch up annually. I Personally favor a manual, but cute girls who cant drive stick are willing... and i'm not worried about a date smoking a clutch..

My next one will definetly be manual.. there IS a market for automatic, and they seem to generally be in better shape mechanically then the 5-spd's (Everyone on this BBS is excluded from that statement becaue WE work on them and keep them running)
I simply mean the one-time non-enthusiast owner- who bought it as a toy and lost interest due to maintenance and upkeep- USA is a lazy driving community, as a whole, and many people dont want the hassle of shifting. (or learning how to for that matter- My ex didnt know how to downshift- burned up the brakes in my old Mitsu GT-VR4 every 30 k miles)

In not really an advocate of the Auto, it was my best friend's dad's car he took in for a trade, he never titled it or drove it (twin 16 Y.O. daughters)for 2 years, and i couldnt bear seeing it sit not being driven. I'm not going thru the expense to convert it- i'll simply sell it when I find another manual I want.

I have a standard and would not drive anything else but I have no problems with autos. My Jeep GC would be stupid in an automatic. When my GF and I get married I am planning on getting her a TT coupe or Boxster in tip. that is fine with me, no clutch for her to burn up in a year.
