From my research and understanding they have done the most for 944/lsx swap and are the most knowledgeable. They have used and tested all their products over the years.
I know there are several LSx users here but the best place to get more info would be http://www.porschehybrids.com

I wouldnt say "everything you need." The basic kit, will get you close to getting the ls1 in your car but you still will need, a clutch disc that fits the 944 spline but the diameter of the ls1, custom headers, fuel line if needed to convert from a return style to returnless, custom wiring harness, a custom ecu to get rid or vats, ETC... If your thinking about a swap like this, PLEASE DO A LOT OF RESEARCH BEFORE HAND! Theres a lot of stuff going on with a swap like this.
If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them. Ive dealt with Renegade Hybrids, and I use their kit.
BTW, if you didnt already know, I have a completed LS1 swapped 951.

I have met the guys there in Vegas. They are good guys and do good work. I know several people with the V8 in their 914. I have done a swap in a first gen RX7 and I will say that Basic Kits are for guys that have lots of fabrication skills, time, and resources. I recommend getting complete kits and making your life very easy on yourself.

Its "basic" since everyone has there own preferences to what parts they want and what they dont.
If they offered a full kit on their website, they probably wouldnt sell a lot because if you add up everything they sell to get your car running, your looking at over $5k just for the kit, then you have to try and find an engine on top of that price.
You honestly dont need everything from them, unless you dont know anyone that can fab just a few minor parts for you.
And thats good your not in a hurry because they are very slow over there, so plan ahead and when you ready to order a kit from them, sooner is better. It will usually take much longer then their stated 4-6 weeks.

I have an LS6 in my 944. I bought EVERYTHING from Renegade to make the swap easy. What I found is that they sub most of this stuff out and if there is a problem they are less than zero help. I would not recommend this swap unless you could fabricate most of the stuff yourself. Then when the harness they sold you doesn't work you can sort it. When the oil pan they sold you leaks like the Exxon Valdiz you can fix it. When the PS delete they sell is nowhere near right you can fabricate one.
Then you can listen to all the reasons they shouldn't take their crappy parts back.
Nice guys, not enough knowledge or quality control.

Also the wiring harnesses have been problematic for a few, but moreso the issues with improper re-programming of the donor ECU and/or its' condition seemed to be a bigger gripe that has been documented/posted.
With that said, it is always a challenge to build and provide quality parts/pieces for a swap, irregardless of what it is going in. Take into account that more than half of those performing it have no clue as to what they're doing, so maybe some of these issues are related to am improper install.
Either way, Renegade is definitely the most experienced outfit when it comes to these and I am sure they do the best they can. There is alot going on in there for one these, as I am sure you are well versed in it

There were 2 swaps listed on the 951 forum....in November/December '08 (I think)....that had the same issue with the oil pans. Maybe a bad batch...maybe all relative to the shape of the donor car they salvage them from...not sure, but it appears as if you got lucky with yours, OR they got unlucky...depending on the point of view.

Anyways, Ill have to agree that Renegade is the most experienced out there when it comes to these swaps, and with some knowledge, IMHO, they make this swap "pretty easy".
