Default Wet Floor Board

I have 2 83 944's with the same problem. After a rain storm the passenger side rear floor board turns into a swimming pool. I looked every were for water marks but cant find any. Has any one experienced this problem and if so how did you fix it? Thanks for the help!!

I would suspect clogged sunroof drains, assuming that the cars have sunroofs. Mine does something similar, but isn't completely flooded...just soggy.

+1 if it is restricted to the passenger's side floor board. Pull the battery out and clean / inspect the tray for decay in the corners. Clean around the holes and repair with silicone / epoxy / fiberglass.... pick your favoriate.

They do both have sunroofs, I will look at the battery tray and check the sunroof drainage tomorrow. Thanks for the quick response, I will let you know how it works out.

oops... didn't see the "rear" part on the first post. Was thinking it was the front passenger side floor board. If its the rear then it's a toss up then between battery tray and sunroof depending on if the car was parked on an incline, etc..

REAR floor board. Not likely to be the battery tray. It's the quarter window seal, or a sunroof drain.

If not the battery tray, the quarter window seal is easiest to try first. put a piece of tape on window and rubber. if it stops pull the rubber back, fill with urethane, squeeze, then take a razor and get rid of the excess urethane.

took a glass guy exactly two minutes to fix that. took me exactly too many hours to find out that was where it was. if that doesnt work, do the drains, then the hatch seal.
This is the order to check
Before starting put sledge hammer and lighter fluid in a place you cannot get to. No matter what, no matter how loud you scream, do not, i repeat do not let yourself near the hammer or fluid Dr. Fronkensteen.
1. Battery Tray
2. Quarter window
3. Sunroof drain and sunroof seals
4. Hatch not sealing
5. lighter fluid permeating the wet area, light, walk away, move on to next project.

Someone may have a less drastic 5, but if 1-4 fail, that is what you will want to do.

Could still be the battery tray even if it's in the back foot area. Most of our cars are slightly slanted down in the back so the water travels. I've had two rusted battery trays. Never had a sunroof drain issue that I know of.

Found the problem !!!!!!! The exact same thing in the exact same place on both 83's. The seam coming down into the battery tray from the middle area were the air intake is. I pulled the carpets out of my parts care and traced the water to the very top of the front passenger side floor board ( Niebhor had a garden hose in the battery tray, as soon as the water reached seam it started coming down inside. I sanded the seam down with a wire wheel on a drill, vacumned it out, and then put some fresh RTV. I am going to let is set for 24 hours before I test it. I will keep every one updated. Thanks for all the help!

So the blower assembly? RTV might work, but if you pull the blower assembly, clean it up, and put some new strip caulk in you ought to be good. That's what was there from the factory. Its cheap, and it lasts a good long time (apparently 22 year on mine ).
