Default rear shock replacement

I've run into a little problem replacing the rear shocks on my S2. I have both the lower and upper bolts out, but the upper part of the shock will not budge. Is there something else holding it in place? Or do I just need go give it really hard pull?

If the upper bolt is out, then you just need to pull the shock down and out...pull harder.

maybe get a rubber mallet and give it a few good whacks to break it free.

what's holding it in place is road grime and rust hehe.

probably, turned and shook it a bit and it came out. My old rear left shock wouldn't extend if I pushed it all the way in, and when it did return it was slow as hell. Handling should improve a bit.

If the upper and lower bolts are out then it should come out. If it does not you may force it. This one of the few areas you can do that. I would shove a long screw driver in there (between the body and top of shock) and try to lever it out.

very nice, my replacements were decidedly less so. Just put in some used stock shocks with about half the miles of the ones that came off the car. I still need to do a couple DE/auto-x events to get a better handle on the car and determine how far I want to go with modifications.

Hi. Planning on doing this to my 951 cab when the Konis arrive. How far did you jack up the rear to replace the shocks? I recently replaced the rear swaybar and wonder if I'll need more clearance to do the shocks.

Not much more then what was needed to take the wheels off. Tough part was getting under the car with a ratchet and a wrench in order to hold one side of the upper bolt while loosening the other side.

Yeah you dont need much room. It's an easy job. The only tough part is reinstalling and getting the holes lined up.
