Default Brake lights

My friend told me my brake lights are not working. I verified the issue and am now curious/vexed. I HATE working with electronics. Hate it with a burning passion. I need to get my lights turning back on when I hit the no-fun pedal, so where is the best place to start? I'm gonna tear into the back and see if the bulbs aren't burnt, but I doubt it since they both happen to be out.

This isn't like a common thing is it?

Still at work, but I went out and pulled the bulbs.

Driver bulb: black tinge on glass and filament looking worn.

Passenger bulb: corrosion on bulb socket and connection lead.

I'll be grabing some bulbs after work and hopefully be putting this behind me (corny pun).

Water may have leaked in from your hatch too causing corrosion on the contact points. I'd get some emery cloth or a wire brush and clean the whole assembly up if there is any corrosion. Also wire contacts going to the assembly.

check the fuse box to see if one hasnt blown. and if your going to tear out some of the interior go ahead and check the wiring. that's what my friend and i are doing to his 91 camaro.

First thing to check is the fuse. Then bulbs. Then brake switch. And finally wiring. Brake light circuit is extremely simple.

I could have done a better job cleaning my leads, but I installed new bulbs and I still have nothing. I figured this woud happen. Get this. Whoever did these bulbs last, put two different kinds in. Where's a facepalm when I need one.

Did you check the fuse? If its no that, then check the switch, the connector might have broken off. Just get down and look for the switch on the brake pedal. A new switch is only like 10 bucks.

Ordered a switch from Pelican. And because I wanted the free shipping, I ordered a CV joint rebuild kit.

On my car the lights went out when my switch was out of adjustment.
