My wife backed my suburban into the drivers quarter panel last night. Just above the rear wheel. It really knocked the hell out of it. Has anyone had good luck with pulling damage out in this area or is it best to have a new panel welded in?

I had a really bad dent back there last year when I was home and backed up into my dads car on the driveway. I paid a guy, and he managed to pull out most of it w/ suction cups, but now there are 3 or 4 small dents instead of one really big one. Looks a lot better, but still not pretty.

I'll post a pic in the next day or so.
Chris - no, it's more than surface. It pushed it well into the inner panel.
Oh well, it gives me a reason to purchase that new 80 gallon two stage compressor and air tools that my wife hasn't let me buy yet. I'm gonna milk this one for everything I can!!! Guilt can work wonders sometimes.

Just to commiserate with you and the "autocidal 944-killing wives club" - 4 years ago the minivan-wielding spouse then attempted to crush my perfectly innocent 944 by backing over the front 1/4 of the frontal area. From inside the house I was alerted to the incident by a certain distinguishable sound of crushing plastic.
As I drew upon the scene, the look of horror on said spouses face was enough to reveal what tragedy had just occured.
In that same moment, and within that same look of horror, I was sure that she could not possibly have been any more stricken with fear that I would hurl her small body into a river of doom and despair. Yielding my Porsche-given right to seek revenge on her and her pathetic vehicle of destruction, I allowed her to simply apologize for the unfair advantage she had placed on my ride through the laws of gross tonnage.
The still-bruised header panel of the victim remains a constant and painful reminder of what parking behind a stinky-kid-hauler can mean to the fine lines of the 944.
The assailant has now in her possession and even larger vehicle that might possibly be able to back entirely over the 944. Patiently, I have trained the accused to use the "reflective glass units" to avoid further catastrophy.
Skip - I'm only here for the dark beer!

Skip - I think your story illustrates the fact that we must arm ourselves and destroy the evil empire of the mini-van before it is allowed to strike again. It is clear that the opposite sex is quietly building up its arsenal of WPD (Weapons of Porsche Destruction). We MUST strike first - or forever live in fear of the safety of our beloved marque.

I HATE SUVS!!!
D. Autry, I had a similar accident happen to my '85 944, a guy with a Nissan Pathfinder ran over it, in a parking garage, in reverse, while I was trying to get out of his way, in reverse! I thought I was cute in wheeling her into a parking spot, out of the driveway - he nailed my baby! Driver's left front quarter panel.
Because it was a unibody, it didn't suffer any structural damage. Total repair by Porsche, with new quarter panel and Glasco paint, including colorblend on parts that touched it, $1700. The hood had moved a little, but it just had to be put back in place, and retightened.
There are lots of places that have quarter panels, so don't cry too much - just sell the Suburban!
The only thing that gave me trouble after the repair was the air compressor for the airconditioner, which developed a hairline crack.
Best of luck.

I personally was kinda' fond of the urchin hauler (Aerostar)that I bought for the wife a few years back. It was eminently versatile, hauling everything from full sheets of drywall to furniture and kegs o' beer with aplomb. It was the sorriest handling slug I ever tried to drive, not the least bit disposed to want to change directions, but it was good in a Conestoga wagon kind of way. Sadly, she never did master the use of the "reflective glass units", and after raking the left rocker on a concrete flower pot by the driveway, I thought it might be best if we got something a little more backup friendly for her. Ahh well,,I've still got my pickup. <img border="0" alt="[byebye]" title="" src="graemlins/wave.gif" />

D. Autry - NO NO NO NO NO Don't let them remove that fender!!! I was hit (hit and run), and my passenger rear-quarter was knocked so far in that my storage compartment was clamped together.
I went over this with shops...it costs more and takes more time to try to remove/install that fender (28-38 hrs I think, since that rear piece overlaps MANY other fenders/panels on the car) than it would for them to repair it. My fender even creased to the point it had a hole....they simply welded the hole shut and used rods to basically reshape the fender, then they ground off rough edges and sanded them down. No Bondo. It came out VERY VERY nice...I cannot tell the car had bodywork AT ALL. The way they accessed the fender to do the work was by cutting a 'window' out of the wheel-arch (from inside) and worked through it, then they rewelded the window in place and resprayed undercoat.
TAKE THE CAR SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH METAL-WORK/REPAIR not just REPLACEMENT.
Jones' Autowerks in San Antonio does GREAT work for all types of Porsches...

Robert - Thanks for the heads up on that.
Tim - Uh. . . . yeah. . . . It rubbed all of my nice dust off the bumper. It took weeks of hitting the passes to get that on there!!
Seriously though, not a freakin' scratch.
