Default E-brake snapped

Hi,

The E-brake cable snapped on my 89NA just where it exits the floor inder the rear seat. I bought a complete used set and am trying to figure out how to install. I was going to replace both cables.

It looks like there is some kind of tie bar across the middle underside of the body right near where the cables from the two wheels join together. Do I need to remove this bar?

Any other words of wisdom??
Thanks

Its a bastard of a job. I snapped off the left side cable. Removing the bar really helps getting at the coupler device between the long cable and the short one that goes to the left rear. In any case I removed both rotors and and cleaned up the stuff and checked the springs. Good luck.

Think I am better off seperating the coupler and changing only the long cable?

Yes, but I believe the long cable goes through the coupler and to the right wheel. If you are anywhere close I'll give you a hand.
