Default My 944 engine fire :-(

Right long story short, my car went up in flames the other day due to a badly fitted fuel hose from a shop here - i'm in Dubai - unfortunately i cant really prove anything so i have to live it. So now i have a 2.7lt 89 model 944 sitting doing nothing. It could be rebuilt with a lot of time and effort or parted out. Anyone have any ideas?

Oh yeah recently the hood was shut and now wont open because the cable has snapped, is there a way of opening it???

if you decide to part it the 2.7L head is very valuable and sought after by turbo guys to do 3.0L turbo cars.

you can open the hood latch by reaching up from under the car with a pair of narrow long pliers and pulling on it, this is difficult but i have done it a few times.

Sorry to see that. I don't know what the used 944 parts market is like over there. It would be a huge job to fix it with all that burnt wiring.. a shame.

I would say depending on which harnesses were fried it should be rebuildable, Lindsey has replacement engine harnesses for roughly $360 (reference sensor, engine sensors, and fuel injectors) total rebuild need would depend on what else was damaged and how dedicated the owner is to restoring the car to running condition...

AND there is always the option of swapping in a harness out of a totaled car...

It could be rebuilt, but it is only if the owner has a strong need to restore the car... if no strong need or desire for rebuild, it is far easier to start over with another car...

Very sorry to see that.

But if the shop did work on a fuel fitting, and then the car caught fire, then they are responsible. I would notify them immediately to see how they respond. If they don't make good on their mistake, then I'd take it to the next step.
