Cool New Year's Eve & Manhattan Midtown

Hi you all & Powerful Porsche Year 2003.

Just came back from NY, where we were for 4 days.
Got to tell you, it was <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

We walked through Times Square at approx 4PM on new years eve, and already then people were gettin' comfortable around Broadway and streets nearby.
We tried to get somewhere close after 11 PM, and finally we found our selves in the corner of 6th and 43 th. Just before midnight
It was close enough ! The feeling was just above everything, what I had felt before.
<img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Any of you guys around then?

And this was my first time in US.
It's a great city, that NY...!!!!

And Danno, Thanks a lot, we got the package to our hotel !!

Happy New Year Everybody!!!!

Tommy,

IMHO everyone should visit NYC at least once in their lives. NYC is indeed a great place to be on New Year's Eve. In spite of the 9-11-01 catastrophe, the city still has a feeling to it that's hard to find anywhere else.

I was just there in late November to ship a car to Europe. Glad you enjoyed it, and Happy New Year to you.

Yup, and we were really amazed by the number of NYPD and other officers.
I have never seen so many cops at the same place at the same time.
They told, that there were snipers on the roof tops, under cover cops etc.
So they were not kiddin' around.
But obviously it was a good thing, so everything was pretty peaceful, in spite of the fact, that there 1 000 000 people around.

This morning, when we came back, we had a bit of a surprise -&gt; its REALLY cold out here in Finland at the moment ( -20 to 30 C ). After spending four days in "warm" NYC, it feld terrible <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I went down to Times Square (TRL Area) around 4/5 pm and it was already nuts, people everywhere..We ended up just going to a bar and then walking around later. That city is crazy!! From 4 days/3nights I have many a story to tell
Happy New Year, now Im back in Evansville VERY VERY BROKE. Wow, I blew so much money...

I did see a lemon yellow 944 downtown with some Technology rims, that was kind of cool

We were wondering, where were all p-cars in NY, cause during 96 hours, I spotted something like 5 cars, and none of then 944/951
I see more p-cars in a day here in Helsinki!
well, at least almost ;-)

Thought there were this really cool red 996 T in front of the Plaza

But we did see " a few " limous.
You can spot one easier, than a city bus.

Our hotel was in the corner of Madison and 92th , and we walked to Midtown and back in the New Years eve, so thats something like 100 blocks. But seeing the party was definatelly worth it !

Whenever I'm in the city, the only P-cars I see are typically 996's and 986's and even those aren't too common...Though once I saw a 968 cab.

There are a bunch of P-car owners from NYC here on rennlist...(especially on the 996TT board). If you had a Porsche in that city...would you want to drive it around it? Nope..I know I hated it the one time I had to. I think to them, they just want to drive OUT of the city ASAP when in the P-car.

Yup, you have a point there.
The trafic is pretty heavy down there..

My 951 has been sleeping in the garage for 5 days, I guess is time to wake her up, and take her for a spin into the freezing wheather..

I'll second what Adrial said. I try not to drive around the city too much, especially during the holidays. Too many people get unhappy about what they have/don't have, and everyone carries a set of keys. Plus, door dings, etc. are unavoidable if you park on the street in NYC.

That being said, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay here. It's a great town, and I'm glad the festivities went off without incident.

Kind of easy to justify a $1,000+ lease payment when you pay $600+ per month for garaged parking.
