Default Celebration Edition Interior Woes

My '87 951 was purchased with a horrifically neglected linen interior which, along with the engine, were immediately scrapped. In its place (the interior), I put in black carpet and found nearly mint condition celebration edition seats and door panels. It's a look that I dig, as it's fairly unique and definitely makes the car stand out.

Unfortunately I have run into a wall. Both the seats are wearing and are starting to either tear or just wear through in certain areas (driver's seatbottom and passenger seat outside bolster). The rear seat that I got with the two fronts has already been cannibalized to patch a hole in the driver's side bolster prior to installation of the seats nearly a year ago (I have rear seat storage back there now).

So what I'm looking for is solution to the current holes in the seats, and I'd love to keep this color combination. Is there a secret stockpile of this fabric that I haven't been able to find? Or am I just out of luck?

That's tough one.... I've never tried these guys, but Le Mans in New Zealand have been mentioned here in the past as a source of fabric: http://www.lemansautofabrics.co.nz/fabric-porsche.html

Shouldn't be receiving a lot of wear considering it's not running....

Kristy, my car ran all day at VIR South with no problems! Can you believe that? 110mph and everything.

Sorry, just had to poke fun while mine still works.

Joe - I think I have talked to them before, and they told me they didn't have access to any of this particular fabric. Apparently it's easier to get the Silver Rose fabric that this!

Ash - The car gets plenty of use when it's running, which it should be within the next week or two. GT Auto Show this weekend, you coming down for it?

Catamax - Thanks for the tip! I'll try to get in contact with the guy with the over stock. That seems to be the most promising lead I have seen.

And a quick pic, I apparently don't have many good ones of the interior!

Geez I wish! Jackie and I both have obligations tomorrow so leaving Saturday morning to come down there kind of busts the whole weekend. And I already signed up for an autocross. If I had known maybe I could have brought the 944 down there for Jackie to show off!

It's like the monochrome version of the Silver Rose's Studio plaid...

I have a perfect passanger seat, and a drivers seat that has a lot of good material left on it.

Have you contacted Rob Budd at 928leathershop.com? He has been able to dig-up some strange stuff...

If all else fails, you can get in touch with Porsche Classic at the factory. They sometimes have leftovers for their own restoration projects. Meaning: They would not sell you the material, but might be able to redo your seats with original Porsche materials they have stashed away for such projects.

I read in Excellence some time ago about a guy that had a weaver make new custom fabric for his 911 seats. I'm sure it was pricey, but if you could X amount of people to commit, it might worthwhile for an upholster.

For example, this company will make custom fabrics 150 yards at a time.

Getting those seats recovered was a great day.
