Post 89' 944S2 engine performance upgrade

I know that it is possible to turbocharge this engine (but I don't yet know the cost to turbocharge). I'm curious to know if it is possible to readily and economically feasible to transform the engine of this car to be that of the 968?

Define economically. For under $1K, no.

Talk to John, he's doing this conversion on a 944 S2 right now.

Just to name a few parts...

Cylinder head, intake manifold, MAF induction, exhaust, oil squirters, and a 968 computer to give the Variocam its operating signal.

There are more and more forced induction options for the 3.0L models (944S2/968) on the market and certainly Trevor's conversion by John Anderson looks very appealing.

Just for reference, you can find other options at this URL:

Here's a picture of the finished product. A turbo charged 944S2. We will have the dyno sheets next week. I plan to run the boost at 6psi on the pump, with the stock bottom end.

BUT, for giggles, I will also dump a couple gallons of 111 octane and let it fly to see what happens at 12psi.

What we have is a stock S2 block...never touched, a KKK K26 with #6 hotside turbo, stock 951 intercooler, SFR intercooler pipes, custom manifold built by a local machine shop ( we had a fit issue with the previous manifold), Our MAF kit, 52# injectors, adjustable FPR, stock chip.

We have also installed a front coil over suspension, and will be installing the rears after our customer drives the car for a couple weeks (he's soo pumped about this project ). While we are installing the rear coil over setup, we will also be dropping the pistons to install custom rods that will lower the compression to 8:1, then we will run the boost at 17 psi. At that time we will most likely find the KKK K26 short of wind and upgrade to a KKK K27#8 to hold up its end of the load.

By the way, this is the same car we installed our Supercharger kit on, the customer is pretty much a friend of the shops at this time. We have the unique oportunity to show the difference between the two at the same boost levels with the same block, intercooler and fuel system. Should be interesting to say the least.

Here is a link to another thread, showing pictures on the same S2 conversion in its final stages.

Karl definitely has a cool site...I must've spent an hour looking at all the magazine test comparisons of our cars. The entire history of his S2 is also really neat. I haven't seen compilations like these anywhere else, very cool. Way to go Karl!

I am interested in Jon Milledge's S2 cams and head work. Has anyone tried these cams and or his head work? He said with the cams, head work,3lb fuel pressure,250hp is claimed by some customers

rsdan, would that be a smooth running engine. If so I'd also be interested. Also, what kind of costs and time delay are we talking about? Thanks

Do you have a link?

Yup, its mine and thanks for for the praise

Its just another "me-too" site but I enjoy tinkering with it. It has a long way to go yet and it's <5% complete at this time. The goal is to be a reference site and point people in the right direction for common things that come up time and time again. I myself am not an originator of answers to these things but I often know who can.

Karl.

PS - Very cool S2 Turbo. I wonder how much I have in the penny-jar...

So what kind of cost are we talking about here for a turbo conversion? I know there's a lot of plumbing involved but at least the S2 is basically the same as a turbo as far as the chassis so it's a natural conversion.
