Photoshop Question
I am trying to cut a car out of its background in photo shop. I used the background eraser to get rid of the background, but when i go to fill in the background with a color, it does not fill in completely and looks like a mess. It seems as if the background is not erasing completely and is not all exactly white. Am I doing this correctly.
Also, how do you smooth the edges out on a cut out, like the car above for example. It said something about anti-alaising, but I don't know how to do it.
When people on this board take pictures of cars and put different rims, etc. on them, how are you doing that? Layers?
thanks
Mike

Personally, I think the best way to go about cutting a car out of the background is to use the lasso tool and create a selection around it. You could set a small feather that would antialias the edges.

Neither; quick mask it out! Then select the brush tool, and then select the airbrush tool, if Photoshop 7; earlier, different tools. I would then magnify the piece, so you can get in close. Then step out of Quick mask, and you will see the marching ants around the car.
Then copy, and delete; sometimes I delete the wrong thing, but if I cut out the car, what I do next is create another file, and paste it there. Or choose invert; gets the same thing done. You can then add another layer with what you want, no problem!
If you need further help, email me: devia3@hotmail.com with Photoshop as subject, or I'll think it's spam. Or pm me here online. I am a professional artist for a living, and use photoshop all the time!
If it's a real pain, I'll do it for you, and send it back to you.

Three Wheelin'
Layers.
If the layer is "Background" it won't become transparent when you erase it. If you drag the layer in the palette to the little notepad on the bottom, it'll create a new layer. Then you can delete the Background layer...
If there are white spots after you put in a new background, just switch back to the car layer and delete them...
Anti-aliasing happens automagically when you use the paintbrush/eraser tool as long as the colors RGB or CMYK (just not "Indexed Color")...

I still can't get this to work. Here is the picture I am trying to edit. I want to get the car by itself out of the picture and be able to put it on other things and put a background on it. How would you do this. Photoshop 7

It's easier for me to do than say; first, I use layers, so I mistakenly had that as a given. Unlock the background, and it will give you layers.
Then follow my instructions, and should be fine.

Quickie job, here you go. Saved it in Photoshop format too, if you have big enough email for it; empty background on that one.

Too tired to figure out why pic not loading, did the instructions. I guess go to the link, it's there on a white background; took out the house inside the car too, you will have to drop tint in the interior; just take the eyedropper to the rear left window, then paintbucket it.
