Post Popup Ads?

Anyone else getting them when they come here?

Nothing I hate more in computer land is pop up adds! I absolutely hate them. I sure hope John D. hasn't resorted to them, especially since I remember saying that he hates them.

Nope. If you want to stop those horrible pop ups, I use a free program from Panicware.com, called pop up stopper. Have been using it for about 2 months and is great. IMHO.

I guess that is possible. I will have to try and re-simulate what I just did.

I do have one of those programs, it is called "POW". It works but you have to add each and every new pop up ad that comes around. They distiguish it buy the name of the website and they are most always different.

There is some software (gator for instance) which adds pop ads when you go to sites regardless if that site has a pop up or not.

Are you running a file sharing program (ex. Kazaa)?

If you are running a file sharing program like Morpheus, Kazaa, or Grokster, go to kazaalite.com. It's been stripped of the ad crap and other useless stuff.

Spyware is everywhere (including in Microsofts own release of IE 6.0!) - it'll do funky stuff to your surfing too... Try running Ad Aware first to remove any current spyware (if you happen to have Kazaa instead of Kazaa Lite - it'll no long work. There are problem other programs like this too). Then DL Pop-up Stopper (er, they want money for it now - hit me with a personal email and I'll send you the free copy they used to have on the site) - it's the best blocker I've seen/used over the years. I've been using it for about 3 years now. It differs from what you have now in that it blocks ALL!! pop-ups, unless you allow something to pop (with the Ctrl key held).

The net is a dirty, scummy place now-days... I liked it better when it was that quaint little town that time hadn't found (circa 92~95).

Try using a different web browser (other than IE) to control pop-ups. There are various browsers that do this (all that I am familiar with based on mozilla). Mozilla (slower load times and such, but available for a lot of different platforms) I would recommend one of the following: Phoenix (available for winblows and linux) or Chimera (mac)

gnucleus is the open source p2p that some of the ad filled ones were stolen from, same interface even!
