Post CrapsMan Tools

I got a set of Craftsman needle nose pliers for Christmas a couple years ago. The "Professional Line". I'm working away building wiring kits and using a short needle nose pliers, tips ~ 3/4" long.

Never used more than hand pressure on these and I'm no Arnold Schwartznegger. Suddenly, they don't grab anymore. I look at them and one side just fractured and folded back. Way down by the base where it is thick.

How the heck did it work fine one minute, and for years, and then just fold back catastrophically?

Guess repeated stress failure applies much closer to home than you would think.

You must of ben working out too much lately building those muscles up. At least you can take them back But I can't say much because I buy mostly Craftsman tools they are decent price and you can return them when they DO break.

I don't believe it, I just snapped the replacement CrapsMan pliers at the base by the box joint. <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

Made in China. SnapOn, here I come.

Time to go have a beer and figure out if I have some of my Great Grandfather's needle nose that were made with an half-assed eye to quality around in the shop.

I prefer S&K, but I buy craftsman because they are worth the money if you concider the lifetime warrenty and the fact that I live within 5 miles of a Sears.

I have yet to break a Craftsman socket or wrench, and I am MEAN to them.

I was in Sears once and a guy came in with a BOX(!!) of old rusty Craftman hand tools, that were apparently broke or cracked or something, and they preceded to give him brand new of EVERYTHING. I don't care what you say, you just can't beat that. My Craftman torque wrench broke and back to Sears I go.

My dad HATES Sears, but most of his tools are Craftsman. You really can't beat that kind of warranty. I think Snap-On has the same warranty but they are not as convenient unless you are on their delivery trucks route. My dad loves breaking Craftsman breaker bars, usually 2-3 per job. I guess he is trying to put the local Sears out of business by making them stand up to the warranty.

Well, if you never have to bring the stuff back in the first place, that's even better! The only Craftsman stuff I use were given to me free and clear. Otherwise I buy other stuff that fits the hand and the car better.

Not a car-related tool, BUT last week I took a Craftsman grass edger from a couple decades ago back to Sears. They pulled a new one off the shelf and said "thanks, have a good day."
That's pretty sweet.

If you have broken Craftsman tools but Sears is not near you, you can always exchange them for Husky tools at Home Depot. They will give you brand new Husky tools for your broken Craftsmen. And they also have a lifetime guarentee.

I am kind of a tool junkie, I have sets of tools for each hobby. I also have a set my from my dad, who was also a tool guy.

I break or tweak the tools in my personal sets all the time.

I have never been able to break any of his old tools. The older tools are just a whole different level of quality to anything you find today.

The reason Sears is so happy to replace the tool that breaks is that you bought it for 1000% more than it cost them to make. Craftsman tools arent even made by the Craftsman company. Most are cheap *** relabled Chinese ****.

Its harder to find Snap-on, but at least they use decent tool steel.

Of course, if you dont mind the trip to the mall every 3 months to have tools replaced, the Craftsman are a decent purchase. If you can actually get the mouth-breathing imbicile at the Sears counter to replace the tool.

I have a couple sets of those "Professional" grade screwdrivers. I strip them, bend them, tweak them about once every 6 months. Three times now I have had to go ballistic on a moron at Sears who refused to replace my screwdrivers.

I would call them Hobbyist grade at best.

(and thats far more credit than the tools deserve.)

When I had problems with the Kenmore fridge that came with my house, I called Sears. Usually, I repair these things myself, but I couldn't diagnose this problem.

The Sears guy put in a new part free of charge--on a fridge that was at least 10 years old, and purchased by someone else! How do these guys stay in business? I like my craftsman tools a lot too.
