Here in Florida, they're required to give you local market value for the car. Unless you agree to a lesser amount. It sounds like its the same or similiar in your state if he had full coverage.

When I wrecked my 1st car (a horrible powder-blue dodge neon no less) I was given a lowball figure of about $1500 including sales tax.

I told them it was BS and haggled with them trying to get local market value of about $5,000-5500. They gave me NADA values.. then bluebook.. I kept telling them no... it went on like this for 2 straight months.

until I found my 86 N/A for $4k.. so I settled on $4500

my advice, based on my experience, would be to lookup the local market for 944's in your area on autotrader, and tell your buddy to accept no less. it might take a few months, but hey, its worth an extra $3-4k at least.

I think the $1900 is way low. Mine was an 86 showing 118K, clear coat peeling from the hood back to the windshield. Interior was rough, rough, rough. Without any reciepts for recent work (which had been done, but I digress). I filled out a spreadsheet from local ads for other cars for sale, and was able to come up to $3200 with retention of title and sales taxes. Best of luck.
