Daniel

I think Rennbay still sells a rebuild kit....Travis is a site sponsor and a hell of a nice guy too!

I am still running the 205/225 stock combination on my car, although I am planning (probably next season) to go 1-size all around on 8" rims....probably on a track set of wheels while retaining the 205/225 layout on the street.

I think if you go to wheelenhancement's website you can see the weights of the factory wheels.

There are several other good resources if you search here.

Thanks Joe,
I got hold of some phone dials a few weeks back and have the 16" 205/225 combo at the moment. I find it nice for everyday driving. When the car had the 17"s on it felt more sure in the corners but tram-lined like crazy and felt a bit heavy and "dead" if you know what I mean.

Are the 17's OEM wheels?

There were ( I thought ) italian replicas that were floating around...which I believe were far heavier than stock.

A nice set up is to run 8 & 9's x 16 with the 245's. The Club Sport wheels are quite light but the 8" ones are very hard to find.

Now that I've gone off the deep end I've gone to 8 & 9.5 x 18's BBS LM's w/ R6's (245 & 275's) and the turn in is incredible but the margin for error is very thin...

Chad- What's the big mallot doing near your car?? You're suppose to finnesse these cars not beat them into submission.

My grandfather used to refer to a big hammer in his shop as "the German Screwdriver"....

Joe. Those 17" are the Italian ones and they are kinda heavy. It's amazing what effect rotating mass has.
As for those BBS LM's, I could probably afford one wheel. Back home in Australia there's a wheel maker called Simmons. http://www.simmonswheel.com.au and they make some nice stuff. With the exchange rate they still cost about US$500 a wheel, so rather expensive. They make a wheel in a similar style to the LM. I quite like the Porsche "winter" (I think that's what they're called) five spoke that have a groove along each spoke. I guess it's time to go shopping. Anyone know what price I should sell the Italian 17"s for? I think the fronts are 8" and rears are 9".

That car looks great. The cage looks very nicely done. What wheel/tire sizes are you planning on running? I really wanted a white S2, to me they seem to look so much better in white. My red one will do fine though.
Hey Dan,

Thank you. I will be running a combo set of 996/Boxster 17" twist wheels. the specs are:

Front: 17x8.5
Rears: 17x9

I have not yet decided on tires, but I am leaning toward a 235/40 & 255/40 combo. It is VERY easy to over tire these cars. As others have said the 245 on all fours is popular in the racer crowd.

I will have a tuned 968 motor in the car, so having a little extra meat back there with a lighter chassis will be good. I will then tune the suspension to fit the tires. With this spec, the rear tires will only be approx .5" larger in width.

My advice - take your time and build the car to suit your driving style. Do not start with a fully built car. Learn to drive it as you go. Gradually.

Good luck.

C.

Thanks Chad I appreciate the advice. I don't need to be getting too far ahead of myself with all the tecnoweenie stuff. Although I'm a technoweenie at heart.

Joe, thanks for the heads up on the sway bars, I'll check it out.

Indy cars out at Barbers today. Very quick, I have a new-found appreciation for those Honda engineers.
