Post Turbo brakes on N/A

Would turbo rotors and calipers fit my n/a without any other mods? I'm looking to upgrade and know where I might get some. I have an 85.5 and the donor turbo is an 86.

There's more to it than just the calipers and rotors, but it's been done. IIRC you'll also need the spindles and strut assemblies but there are many on the board who know more about this than I do.....

You'll need hubs, spindels, rotors, and struts (or you can modify yours) from the donor car. My opinion would be to find a later donor. The 86' stuff was one year only. The rotors bolt to the back of the hubs (PITA) instead of just slip over the hub. I put 87' stuff on my 85.5. Check the archives there has been alot on this mod.

I have aftermarket 993 rims for the 86 offset. I can't afford to get rid of them.

The 87 Turbo parts will change your offset so rule that out...UNLESS you have aftermarket wheels with late offset and spacers to make them work with your 86 offset, but you did not mention that so I'll assume this isn't the case.

Anyway, when you say brake upgrade you're refering to both front and rear calipers, rotors, etc? I haven't done this myself but here's what I'm thinking...

Will the turbo rotor bolt to your na hub? Well, the bolt pattern is the same so the rotor will slide onto your hub, but are the holes for the two screws in the same location? Not sure on this one...perhaps that's why it's been suggested that you get the hub assembly.

Next, will the turbo caliper bolt to the 944 spindle? Again, I'm not sure so you'll have to find out...again a 951 spindle was suggested. I'll try to ask around and see if I can find out.

Way to go tackling the head gasket, btw.

MichelleJD,

Your last post left the impression that you were not into the performance of a turbo, yet you are now thinking of a performance upgrade.

Along with the pieces previously mentioned, you may also need the turbo rims (to clear the larger brakes) and possibly the proportioning valve and maybe more.

At this point It would be better that you sell your car and use the cash to minimize the purchase of a Turbo.

You will get the brakes, and the turbo, and the transmission, and the wheels, and the proportioning valve, and the, and the..............well you get the picture.

If you like the performance of your car then keep it. If not, don't try to turn yours into a turbo.....Buy one.

It will be cheaper and it will be done right.

michelle, i have the absolute answer for the brake upgrade question, and it is very in-depth. i was considering doing the upgrade and posted quite a few topics and made quite a few phone calls. unfortunately, my car will be going up for sale as soon as i can untie the heart strings and place the damn ad so mods are now out of the question. either that or wait till they kick me out of my apartment.

i'll see what i ca do to get a good post on here.

I was going to buy Tariq's turbo, but he decided to keep it and I really don't think I could let mine go. I'm quite attached to it. The problem is, it doesn't drive like a Porsche. I guess what's got me is that my partner has a 96 Contour taht will practically smoke my car. Even tho I don't care to go racing, that just doesn't seem right! Eventually I may be able to buy a turbo AND keep my car. That's the best of both worlds I guess. But I can keep adding to mine over time. I know I'll never have the heart to sell it so I'm resigned to this course. ::Big sigh::

Jason - I'll shoot you an email tonight or tomorrow

BTW using 87+ spindles and hubs on an early offset car will not change the offset. The change in offset was a result of the longer a-arms.

15" do clear the 951 brakes, and you will need camber plates if you gonna use late hubs and spindles with early arms.
