Hi, my name is Roman and I have a 1983 Guards Red 944 N/A
so now proper intro is done, hahah, I have a timing belt question.
whats all needed for a timing belt job?
basically, with Rennbay having a sale on that nice belt kit, I think I'm going to get their kit; now, for adjusting - they have tools, and I have a question on what tools are going to be needed for the job?
I'm getting ready to order everything by the end of next week/week of April 1st, and I'm sure ton of people have done their belts and can give me some pointers to tackle this task.
My car broke a timing belt while @ idle in the driveway (figure it always idled low - 600-800rpm) - I was in the car and there were no noises of any kind; so I want to try and change the belt/rollers - and see if/how it runs - but I might be looking for a new used head, so if someone has one for an early car - I'm all ears, but it won't be 100% untill I get the kit installed and try to start it
we tried to turn the engine over by hand - to set it to TDC - and it turned easy without any noise/trouble; p/o didn't have any info on when anything was done, so I'm going to say that it was time for the belt to go ...
thanks for any input!

You can buy a Gates belt from pelican (and many other repuatable places) for < $15. I wouldn't waste money on anything fancier until you know the state of your engine -- almost certainly has some valve damage.
For tools, I'd check out www.arnnworx.com -- rennbay doesn't appear to have a comprehensive set of tools for sale, in particular the pin wrench for the balance gear sprockets/autorensioner.
