Post Day time running lamps...944 fog lamp bypass wiring question

I'd like to be able to switch on the fog lamps only...completely bypassing the need to switch on the parking lamps. Intent is to use the fogs as day-time running lamps without any rear lamps on.

Is there anyone out there who has done this wiring? Lord knows what may happen if I get under the dash and start playing electrician without a schematic.

It would be great to wire them in such a way that in case I switch off the ignition without first switching off the fogs the audible warning sound would kick in.

Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

Well you could wire the fog light switch to the accessory power...Then when the key was turned in a notch (so that the windows work, etc) the fogs would be on. I'm not positive where that is, but an easy way is to tap a fuse...

I drive with my foglights on, too. Sunny day + country road with trees + sunglasses make for some tricky lighting. Looks cool, too. I think having the rear lights on is a plus.

Side note: How cool is it that our foglights flash when you pull back on the stalk? So.

My fogs don't flash...
That's unfortunate.. My opel gt has the flip-lights, so my fogs are wired to act as regular lights when the mains are on, and they flash w/the stalk (and the horn beeps too).. The wiring in my -44 is a little more involved tho.. anyone able to help w/this? To go with it, I wanna wire the 'extra' taillight hole to run w/drls. I'm gonna install leds back there...

You could run a relay...
get the actual power from ground and a good positive (maybe run something straight to the battery)

Then ground one end of the coil of the relay, and run the other side (positive) to the fog switch, and then to ignition on (the stereo works good for that).

You follow or did I confuse you?

My car has a three way switch, position 1 is front spoiler lamps only, position 2 is as 1 plus rear fogs. The h/l switch is the same, pos 1 = bumper lamps low beam, pos 2 is + pop up h/l's. 0 is off. It's all stock.

The foglights won't flash if they're "on," even if they're not lit. If your lights are off, and the foglight switch is on, they won't flash.

Here is a pic, it was taken by the previous owner 3 days before I bought it 18 months ago. I haven't taken any pics myself, though it looks a lot better now, the wheels in that shot are a disgrace, the '944' had fallen off so I just de-badged it. I love the colour - everyone thinks it is black to start with, then they go 'hey, that's blue isn't it?" It looks fantastic under streetlights. I decided that I would have any colour except guards red (I don't like red cars), white (shows the dirt too much) or bronze - it sort of dates the car in my opinion. I don't think the colour was an option past 86 or 87. You can also see where I get my handle.

Having your lights on makes your car more visible, without a doubt. In areas where luminosity fluctuates heavily (on aformentioned country road), it makes a huge difference. Especially when you're wearing shades, which most people do when driving in the sun...

to flash the fogs with the high beam stick, the fog light switch has to be in the off position.
