Do you want me to kill baby seals? If not please help me replace my hood struts.

Cabrio hood is different I believe in the shock has to be fully compressed to even meet with the hole.
Or maybe I'm a wuss.

I always like it when you get to the part of the story where the hammer comes out. As Chekhov said "If the hammer comes out it in act 1, you'd better have blood on the garage floor by the end of act 2".

Are you sure you have the right size hood shocks? They are not that difficult to replace, a 5 minute job at most.
...and yes, I have replaced them on a 944, 951 and the cabriolet. They are all the same.

Well I'm completely ****ed now, one of the retaining clips flew through the air into the nether region when **** goes never to be found and the other one snapped in half as I was holding the shock with my left hand and almost getting a hernia. I tried hammering it in and it shattered. Mr Porsche **** YOU, nice design.
I think we've all been in these frustrating situations and its so much more fun to be the observer.

I've replaced them on both cabs within the past couple of years and it's definitely a two man job. Unless you want to risk cracking the windshield, like happened to Rock.
I had my kid brother steady the hood to keep it from touching the windshield and hold the pin ready to push it through while I compressed the shock. Hardest thing is getting a good enough grasp on the thing to actually compress it and hold it that way, because it bounces right back.
Part numbers are 999.094.011.09 for the pin, and N.900.470.01 for the locking washer.

If you twist the shocks you can adjust their length. I had to make mine a little bit shorter by twisting, then attach the bottom, then put a screwdriver through the top hole in order to compress it enough to get it on. Def a 2 man job.

Yeah, this job can be irritating. I broke my windshield instantly the first time I tried to do this alone (hmmm - it doesn't fit...crunch). Next time I used a bunch of guys and muscled it in (one holding the hood, one muscling, one watching the hood corner, even though I had a piece of 1/4" plywood there, and one salty old machinist who just hung back shaking his head and chuckling).
When it came time to do it again (alone) I build this which worked great (next time I'll put a turnbuckle in there).

i folded up towels crammed them under the corner, using a 1x2 trim board cut to length, I propped the hood up as high as i dared so the corners were in the towels, put lower end on car, both hands on shock and all weight and when it hits the sweet spot, slam it on

I connect the strut on the upper side first, then hook my index finger around the lower part as shown in the picture, and use my other hand behind the first hand to help compress the strut. Takes about a minute per side. I also do one side at a time.
