Clever.

I'll have to try something like this and remeasure my camber.

Presumably you'd be looking for a SC set-up that allows you to keep your aircon in Brisbane! Have you been looking into any kits/set-ups in particular?
Actually, my air con is not working anyway, and the car isn't my daily driver so aircon isn't that important to me (although it would be nice to have sometimes!) - I'll sacrifice being cool for an extra 100hp. I have been thinking bout getting it fixed in the mean time - know any good aircon mechanics in Brisbane north/central?

I have been looking at the Speedforce racing kits which seem to me to be a fairly straight forward install. The AUD to USD exchange rate is making me think twice at the moment!

Yeah -- me!

Well, what I mean by that is when my compressor started leaking recently, I got a few quotes from local car a/c shops, and knowing a little about what work was actually needed, decided to do most of the work myself.

I did send the compressor to a guy in Rockhampton to do the compressor reseal/reuild. He was less than half the price of the Brisbane guys -- I got quoted some ridiculous prices. (And I was glad to support a regional Queensland business with all the problems they've been having lately!)

I ordered the receiver/dryer (needs to be replaced whenever the system is opened up to the atmosphere) from a US supplier. Even after shipping and the current brutal exchange rate, a fraction of the price of a locally sourced unit.

After reinstalling the rebuilt compressor and the receiver/dryer, got it regassed for about $100.

Anyhow, it's the old story -- if you want it done well, and at a reasonable price, you do it yourself. So the only good north/central Brisbane Porsche aircon mechanic I could find was... me!

Yeah, recently I've been finding all sorts of things just aren't worth ordering from the US anymore... after shipping and exchange rate, actually cheaper to buy local retail often...

FWIW, I expect phase 2 of the GFC will be when commodity demand starts to pick up again worldwide, and that will lead to a sharp readjustment of currencies -- again. I think the $US will resume it's pre-crisis trend... down. Economic fundamental always assert themselves -- eventually. So maybe I'd hold off on the SC kit for this year...

I'd be interested in a SC kit that could preserve the a/c -- I'll admit it, a cool car is worth at least 100HP to me -- hell, did I say 100HP -- make that 150!

Actually, the camber measurement method is very close to what I did...

But you can't zero out the device. Your surface would have to be perfectly level and flat. I've never had a garage that had a perfect floor - close, but not perfect.

sure u can. as long as the bottom edge of the device is truely zero. just set the device on the ground, note the reading in resting location.

I like that camber gauge - you might be able to see it while you're under the car turning the eccentric!

Curt, use a water level and floor tiles like this guy does:

P.S. he uses table salt between floor tiles for turnplates.
