where do yall get em at? local shops or mail order? I used to do autoX's in a M open faced helmet.
I imagine a closed faced SA2005 that fits me comfortably would be enough for DE's and autoX's. Are open faced allowed in DE's generally? I wear glasses so open faced would help greatly.

I bought mine at OG Racing. But then, they're 10 minutes away so it's really easy. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Whether or not you want to buy locally versus mail order is up to you (I prefer to go local if possible, but whatever), but I'd strongly recommend trying the helmet on before buying/ordering to make sure it's comfortable.
When I bought mine, I briefly considered an open-face helmet because it was a lot cheaper. But then, I decided that if I ever really needed the helmet I'd rather have a full-faced helmet. It's a bit of an akward fit with sunglasses so I'm not sure how well it would work with regular glasses... which is all the more reason to try them on before ordering!![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Ya, I think helmets are definately something you buy local.
You need to go in and try them on.
I thought I was a medium (having worn rental helmets at autocross), but when I bought my own helmet, I ended up being a small.
Make sure you go somewhere reputable with knowledgable sales people.

I think it's important to try on the helmets and figure out exactly which model and size is right for you....then if you want to order online go ahead.
Stable Energies is near me...and they were great as far as giving me guidance on proper fit.
I have a relatively inexpensive, full-face Pyrotect Helmet...want to say it was a bit over $200.

agreed on trying on locally and Stable Energies. Great customer service and a good selection of helmets, which is really good because not all helmets fit the same by a long shot. Definitely try before you buy

Definitely want to try beforehand as mentioned; you might have better luck finding a shop in your area if you post on the racing/DE forum. Certianly there should be a shop near Chi!
If you can order online, saferacer.com also has great deals... though sometimes their customer service can be a bit of a pain.
