<strong>I found a killer cup holder at Pep Boys. Black plastic and aluminum, it looks very stylish. Total cost $4.75.
It mounts securely to the a/c vent (I use the center passenger vent), it is very light weight, and almost looks factory. It has a hinged piece to fit a variety of containers.
I have had everything from a can of Coke to a giant Carl's Jr. cup in the holder, and it never spills.

Is this the one?
I found them (I bought two, since I occasionally have a passenger) at Wal-Mart (after going to AutoZone and Pep Boys, to no avail) for less than $4.00 each.
I just installed them yesterday, so I haven't had the chance to test them out yet. But it's encouraging to hear that you've had good success so far with this type.
I'm not sure yet if I'll keep them where they are, or move them to the center vents. My concern with the center is possible spillage and condensation drips on sensitive electrical switches and the radio. I guess I could just put a paper towel or napkin underneath the cup first...
One thing for sure... I'll definitely be removing them during auto-x and track events!!
