Oh, sweet baby Jesus! I wonder how high she'll get!

Still though, I don't know why but I'm just not a fan of BBS rims.

The last service stamp is dated 1989...

think it might need a new timing belt?

My guess is that you might be better off with a higher mileage car that had had recent service, 13 years is a long long time for rubber and fluids to sit.

I bitterly can't stand wheels like that, otherwise it's neat to have that few miles.

I can't help but comment:
I've just gone through basically replacing every piece of rubber and plastic under the hood because I assumed (ignorance is bliss?) that a low milage car was a better car. The car sat for five years without being driven.
To kick me while I was down, the previous owner had done a lot of work himself and royally messed things up.
So before any of you go out and buy a super low milage car, assume the worst.
My list of parts replaced:
-motor mounts
-cam shaft housing gasket
-head gasket
-front seals
-belts
-water pump
-new gears on crankshaft (woodruff key was BENT!)
-new camshaft (another woodruff key problem, leading to unbalanced rotation... and on and on)
-cylinder cleaning
-valve seals
-coolant hoses
-about HALF the hardwire of the electrical system

If you can't do some or all of the above yourself - live in fear of the low mileage cars!

...I guess this topic hits a sore spot

Eeeewwww! If the belts have been on there since '89, I wouldn't even _start_ the dam' car! And once you're past that, think of the probability of corrosion in the cooling system, sludge in the gas & oil, rotted brake & cooling hoses & CV boots, stuck calipers, dry-rotted tires, etc, etc, etc.... Plumb scary, that. For a non-DIY'er, we're looking at what.... maybe $5-6K to get it safely roadworthy???

Jim, maybe a bit pessimistic? Or maybe not?

Caveat Emptor. How tall was Ralph Sampson? 7+ft IIRC. Don't see it myself unless they adjusted the seat and pedals, if so normal people will never reach the pedals. Maybe he just bought it sight unseen and never drove it after trying to fit in once.

Currently, the auction is at $17k for this car, and the reserve has not yet been met. According to Bruce Anderson's Market report in Excellence, a 1987 951 goes for about $10k in excellent condition.

Now, if the previous owner were someone who was significant in Porsche history, I can understand a car being sold for a premium. But Ralph Sampson? Not sure if he can even spell Porsche! (No offense to Mr. Sampson!)

As PT Barnum would say, "There's a sucker born every minute!"

The person who buys it probably won't be driving it much.

I asked the seller about the belts and other receipts, no reply yet, I was curious, It is a shame if they are 13 y/o belts, very sketchy.

caveat emptor indeed
