Default Gauge cluster giving you problems? Check for spiders..

So my gauge cluster has been acting up lately. Tachometer wasn't really working, voltmeter was showing low voltage and this morning I was driving and the speedometer wouldn't go any higher that 20mph. Thinking I had some bad electrical connections I pulled out the cluster and opened it up.

Turns out some brown spider had made it's home in the housing, and spun a few webs (not noticeable unless up close). Not like it was going to catch anything in there, but the webs did happen to hamper the movements of the gauge needles.

Cleared them all out, and everything works like new!

Anyway, moral of the story, if you have strange problems, check for bugs (the living ones)

Wish I had taken pictures for this..

Had an early 944 that the tach was stuck on, turned out the QC sticker inside had come unstuck and wedged itself in the mechanism - removed it and tach worked fine.

Imagine that, the quality control sign-off sticker killed the device - irony?
