Post OEM "Style" Replacement Foglights on eBay

Anyone try these replacements for 951 or S2?

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33709&item=1876047069" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33709&item=1876047069</a>

The seller says he has "many sets of these" at $85 a pair.

I am a bit suspicious... heck of a price on them tho.

I would really like to see someone fit those in 944S, as advertised. And if anyone knows where I can find one of those elusive 1983-85 944 Turbo's, I'm buying...

Regards, ...Scott

I sure wish someone would volunteer to buy a set and report back their findings... I hate being the sucker who gets ripped off.

Thumbs down

Chances are, they're aftermarket reproductions and not manufactured by Bosch. A while ago, I was misled into buying so-called Bosch Euro Headlights for my Mercedes. I was furious when I discovered they were made in China. The housings were made of cheap plastic and the casting on the lenses were dull; overall they were junk. Beware of unscrupulous eBay sellers. Ask plenty of questions.

These are not Bosch units, I'll pass. I emailed the guy to find out a little more information. Here is what he sent me back. I'm not inferring anything by posting his letter I'm just forwarding on the info.

I know it's not fair and you have to start somewhere, but I won't buy from someone with less than 50 positive feedbacks (as the seller). This guy has only got three and on two of them he was the buyer. I have 100+ purchases to date and haven't been stung yet. Just my $.02 worth.

The pictures are crummy but they sure look like the real deal. Of course this guy has no idea what he is talking about.

As far as I know the 951 and S2 are the only cars that use this lens. I was also told that Bosch sold off this business line some time ago.

I find it hard to believe someone in Asia would bother with knocking off such a small market or that the owner of the old Bosch molds would let things go so cheap. I would suspect that either the whole auction is a bogus fraud or that these are stolen lights. And why would he put 'Style' in captions?

Someone in the area should check out what is going on.

I just sent the guy an e-mail as follows:

"Hello. Where on the east coast are you located? I'd like to have someone stop by and examine these lights first hand if possible. If they are top quality units I may be able to refer several potential customers to you."

His ad looks too slick for someone with only three transactions. He is likely using a new id for these ads.

I got a reply from the seller and he simply replied that he's in Boston. Nothing more or less. I guess if I had a good product to sell, and any quantity worth mentioning, I'd respond with some amount of interest and enthusiasm.

Makes you wonder.

Not that it matters, but...

I think 25 Fonda Drive is a residence, but I could be wrong. Phone at that address is registered to a Brad Whiteis. Why anyone would send payment to "Amber Swhites" when dealing with a "business" is beyond me, but I suppose people can be very trusting.

The number is 434-239-6516 if someone wants to call. If that business is at that address, then that's the phone number. My guess is thats the phone number for someone selling crappy lights.

Why send payment to VA if he's in Boston? The plot thickens.

Ofcourse, we may be overanalyzing a $85 transaction, but it isn't going to be my $85 first.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but these are the fog-lights only. No driving lights. Most people who upgrade these lights opt for the fog&driving light combo.
