Smile SFR Supercharger Application

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen,
It's been a good minute since my last post but I have a provactive topic that should bring some good discussion to light. I know that turboing my NA is source of pain for most NA 944 Owners and that thought was quickly trounced months ago. However, in my quest for more power I stumbled upon this SuperCharger http://www.speedforceracing.com/prod...gers_944v8.php that sounds promising in it's claims and doesn't seem at all... damaging. (I do plan on sending my engine to Lindsey Racing to have it built to appropriate spec before hand). With an advertised 220 WHp, what are some comments from the peanut gallery? Is it worth my time to save five grand to do so... considering for valid reasons of my own I do NOT want a Turboed car, any turboed car.

For the same $$$ you could buy the entire drive train from a factory turbo and do the swap yourself. For that matter you could probably get a souped-up 'crate' motor from a reputable 944 turbo engine builder for not much more than that.

Tims products are top notch. I would ask why? Cause the cost puts you into categories you could easily have a nice turbo motor but, hey different strokes.

You'd be unique thats for sure.

I like the kit but I would go with a S2 or 968 motor and once you get that power you will have to change the tranny too....too much torque for the factory 944 NA tranny.

I say GO FOR IT! Can't beat instant boost from the SC. You'd have one unique Porsche.

+1 to everyone above.... Its not worth the money. The search function will be your friend here. You could do the dreaded turbo swap for close to the same money. A guy named Sid (Blown944) has a supercharged 944 he built for less than $1000 that runs very well with 300 whp. Or, for a few grand more you can do what a few of us are planning..... LS1 from the corvette or GTO. There's already a swap kit that includes everything you need, and you'd get 400 (or more...) HP to the wheels with no turbo lag...

I haven't bought from SFR yet, but from the reviews everyone on here gives Tim, I'm sure its a quality kit. Its just alot of money to dump into something that won't give a lot of HP. You could spend $5k in a lot of other ways and get a better result.

I am addicted to boost in any form (turbo, supercharger) so I say go fot it!

Although I agree with most in the gain vs. $$$$ arguement...but to each his own

If you choose to deal with Tim @ Speed Force Racing you will not be disappointed. His products are all GRADE A, TOP NOTCH...as is his service. So if you go the route, definitely use SFR.

Just my .02

Good Luck and post up as this progresses.

Wow, I see a lot of diverse opinions here but they all seem quite educated. What I don't want is another blown 944 on the side of the road... so whatever I do I want to have it done right. I'll be honest, I'm nervous about buying a 944 Turbo simply because of the age of the technology. I'm no expert in N/A 944's but I would be lying if I said I knew anything about the turboed car other than what I have read on the more common posts. As I said, I do want to build the engine at Lindsey Racing before I apply boost, but I want to be able to run that engine all day, without having to worry if I'm hurting it.
The build is still a few months away, but I will certainly keep a detailed record of the build to be posted on our forum as soon as it's complete. I'll include headaches for sure. If there's any other advice out there, or someone who just thinks this is a horrible Idea I still want the opinion, I'm not very educated in the idea and I'm not too thrilled about an LS1 swap. I would love it, honestly... but I dream of finely tuned German engines

LS1 option is only slightly more expensive and over time will cost less. It might not be German but its great engineering.

Why are you sending your engine to lindsey? The SFR setup will work fine on a stock engine.

How mechanically inclined are you? You could get the same results building a system yourself for less.....or a turbo system.

If it's something you're not interested in doing yourself....I have yet to buy a SFR product but from my investigations of suppliers I have heard nothing but good things. Yes it's pricey but it may be one of those situations where you pay more to avoid more headaches.

Pretty much what everyone else is saying, just thought I'd chime in and reaffirm it.
