Post 996T rebuild - no holds barred

This thread over on the 996T board has me utterly amazed. I have no idea how much all of this could possibly cost, but if the GT1 oil pump alone is 3800 Euros, I'd guess a lot!

<a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=000477" target="_blank">cjv 996 tt project</a>

From cjv's post:
The following is the list of intended internal modifications, parts are presently being ordered.
1) knife edging the crank.
2) Ruf titanium conrods.
3) GT1 oil pump.
4) machine heads for mtal o-rings.
5) GT3RS valve spring assembly.
6) Port & Polish heads.
7) Re profile cam.
8) valve guides (brz/phos).
9) dry lube impregnation of piston skirts, pin bores and ring area.
10) ceramic coat piston domes.
11) thermal barrier coat underside of piston.
12) dry lube impregnation of all bearings.
13) ceramic coat valve faces.
14) dry lube impregnation valve stems & seats.
15) heat dispersant coat valve springs.
16) dry film lube oil pump gears, plates and passages.
17) dry lube impregnation of cam.
Power should move from just under 650 hp into the the 750 hp range with redline moving up to 8400 rpm's. Will have dyno reports when completed.

Sounds like a good recipe for 750 unreliable hp. Although he is making a valient effort anyone can make a car go fast - all it has ever taken is money. Maybe he'd be better off with a Viper if he just wants the hp. If one must have a Porsche and have more power just buy a damn RUF and be done with it. 500 and some odd hp is plenty for that chassis.

Lets not forget also that this has been done to a much higher degree before. Eddie Bello had a 1000hp 911 that ran 160mph? in the quarter (don't think this was a daily driver motor though). I'm not trying to rip on cjv, his plan just doesn't make much sense to me because 1) 750hp will not be reliable on the 3.6L for street use and 2) its already been done to a higher degree. We all know that Porsche motors are incredibly tough but what's the point?

I think the point is to have fun. This is the reason why I keep throwing in the dollars in my car.

Actually I've been down that road before with my old 86 951 and while I thought the point was to have fun I know now that it was "to be faster than a Z06", etc., etc. Funny how we justify things such as bigger turbos, $400 boost controllers, $3000 rims, etc. "just to have fun". Hopefully my days of throwing $20k in to older cars is over for my children's sake.

You say that it's been done before, so? Someone else learned to drive before me, does that make my learning to drive pointless? I understand what you mean about spending an obtrusive amount of money on upgrading a car but doing it to "beat that ZO6" is still fun is it not?

If the dude wants a 750 hp 996T, let him be.

Actually, there are quite a few very reliable, street driven 750 HP 911's out there. R&T test drove a couple awhile back (I believe it was R&T), and I've seen other articles about 'em. They'll melt the tires when ya wanna to, or they'll get you down to 7-11 for some of their spicy Go-Go Tacito's when you need them too.
