Default 944 vibrating problem

Hi guys and gals..!

im after some knowledge on a vibrating issue that my 87 NA 944 has.

at certain stages of revs e.g. 1500rpm & 4000 rpm i get feedback through the steering wheel making an awful sounding vibrating noise.

i researched this on the net the other day, and read up about the balance belts and how they can miss align. so i spent all of this morning checking and one of the teeth on the lower balance pulley was out. so i corrected this n put the car back together again hoping this will have solved the problem!

but sadly no i start to drive it home an dthe vibration is still there.

can anyone suggest anythin to try?

thanks in advance!

scott

is it related to engine rpm or vehicle speed?

if one of the teeth on the pulley was dead, then it wouldn't be able to keep the BS's timed...i'd get a new pulley they're not that expensive.

could be also yer motor mounts are dead

im sure the alignment was right i checked on mre than 10 occasions!! lol.

its an rpm related thing. gets worse once the engines wamred up a bit.
ill look into the pulleys and maybe a new belt.

i heard about the motor mounts too on other forums, ill have a go at that after the pulleys as im a bit hard up on cash at the mo!

cheers for your suggestions

Is this the car you bought last year? Was it always like this or have you had your belts changed recently? It is very easy to get the belt 180deg out of alignment and that would cause exactly the vibration you are feeling.

It would be a very good idea to change the belts, rollers and water pump anyway if you haven't done this. Unless you know for certain that it was done recently by a reputable shop before you bought the car.

Second guess, like everyone said above ^^ would be the engine mounts, but this sounds like a balance belt to me.

Even with all the marks lining up on the pulleys and everything looking as it should, one shaft can be 180deg out. The balance shafts have a keyway/lock that can be fitted into two locations on the pulleys. Get it wrong and you have the exact vibration issues you are having.

Motor mounts are most noticeable at idle. It sounds like a mis-timed balance shaft to me.
