Default Parking Brake Dilemma

I have my 84 in my garage for awhile. I have the parking brake engaged. I am planning on taking the car to the shop to have some needed maintenance on it.
I turned on the car, and tried taking off the parking brake. It will not budge, It is stock. I can't get it to release. How can I get the Parking brake to release without breaking it.

thanks...Joel

I tried that, It won't budge with or without the button being pressed. Is there a way I can release it at the wheels?

if you pull the rear wheels/brakes you may be able to disengage it..

The emergency brake cables tend to rust and stick on these cars. I ended up cutting the cables with bolt cutters to get things apart. The cables were so rusted inside the sheaths that they would not budge. I couldn't even get the short pieces of rusted cable to move. Luckily (?) the brakes don't really hold all that well and the emergency shoes are separate from the disks, so when you wear out the emergency brakes, the normal brakes are not effected.

You might get underneath a try yanking on the cable to loosen them. Mine were rusted right at the entry to the wheel so nothing worked but pulling everything apart and replacing the cables.
