Default Do I need to drain coolant from the block?

I'm in the process of removing my oil cooler to glue in a new oprv sleeve and replace the seals in the process.

i'm draining the coolant out of the rad but do I need to drain the coolant out of the block also?

where exactly is the drain plug for the block ? clarks shows a pic but i can't see I don't want to attempt to remove the wrong bolt.

thank!!

also I'm not draining the oil this is ok right??

Coolant drain plug is on the passenger side of the about halfway up block. Its a 13 mm (I think). It's kind of hidden by the headers so just feel around and you'll find it. It's pretty much the only bolt in that area.

is it necessary to drain the coolant out of the block before taking the oil cooler out?

i'm guessing it is.

oh ok that solves it then lol. thanks.

when I replace the oil cooler seals will it be necessary to drain and refill the oil also?

I just put in new synthetic oil before this repair so I'm hoping I don't have to change oil agian.

I thought when I remove the oil cooler, coolant is going to get into my oil and I'll have to replace it again.

thanks.

I don't see any harm in leaving the oil in there and re-using the filter (assuming you changed it when you did the oil). It's not like you had the infamous milk shake. As I recall, most of the coolant drained out so oil contamination wasn't an issue. Good luck.

When I drain the coolant, I just pull the lower radiator hose and let it drain into a bucket. It's easy to ruin the plastic radiator plug when trying to remove it and unless you have another one handy, you could be SOL. Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't remove the block drain plug, period. These engines like to seize steel bolts and fasteners; why take a chance?

You can drain both coolant and oil before work, and then replace them after. Just make sure you use at least _two_ containers, one for the coolant and one for the oil...
