When doing my car's clutch I had to loosen the exaust manifold about 3/4's of the way. Then the bell housing fell out. Struggled with that for about 1 hour.. HTH.

I'll give the bellhousing another shot tonight after work.

Turns out I ad $200 more than I thought in my bank account, so I'll be able to squeeze by and get the clutch fork. Now I just gotta call Paragon and see if they can get it for me.

The sad thing is this drained all the enthusiasm and drive to fix my car out of me. Now, when I think about it, I just think "What's going to break next?" This sucks.

Last sept the car developed major slack in the driveline after an hour on the track and I'm pretty sure Iv'e blown the clutch centre. After reading the degree of difficulty to replace a clutch and very happy that (A) I'm self employed $$ and (B) Mantis Racing is close bye and do excellent work.

oh .. just read the rest of the post. That sucks. Wish I could help. Where'd you order your clutch kit from? Are you doing with with the car on stands?

Thanks for the support.

Yeah, I'm doing this in my two car garage with the rear wheels on ramps and the front on jack stands. My air tools comprise of a borrowed 1970's compressor, a grinder, and a chisel. My tools are some cheap ratchet set I got from my uncle for Chirstmas last year (it's actually working good), and various Snap-On tools from my great-grandfather's radiator shop from the 40's. Needless to say, I'm making semi-frequent trips to the store to pick up some special tool I don't have. Should have a collection when I'm done though.

Oh, and I also have a work light that heats better than 4 electric heaters, and will make my seats smoke if it sits on them too long <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

And all of this is done in my poorly insulated garage, with an average temp of 30. Makes getting out there to work on it that much harder, although with 3 tshirts, a hoodie, a jacket, some gloves, and a hat it isn't bad.

Everytime I've driven since my car went down (late November), I've just thought "man, I wish I was in my 944 right now!"

Soon enough, soon enough..........I hope <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Brandon.. I'd actually like to see the mess you've created.. (Kidding- I feel your pain!)Im mainly curious.. but I need to get to know my car better too.. this is one thing I personally wouldnt be comfortable doing just yet.

Im planning a trip to PartWerks this week- and I wont be that far from you..

Aside from the transmission crushing my, nothing to this point has been hard--just annoying. Took two weeks just to get the exhaust off (working only an hour a few nights a week_. Then the whole torque tube/ bellhousing thing, and now the broken fork.

Don't be frightened by the job. My biggestjob previous to this was oil changes. Just use multiple sources (Haynes, Factory Manuals, Clark's Garage) to help clarify things, and of course come to the board when you're stuck. Also, make sure you have all of the right tools before hand, and if you start to get pissed off, go do something else. When something isn't working the way it should, I start cleaning grease off the bottom of my car. Gets the underside clean, and calms me down.

I still haven't tried to get the bellhousing off again, or called Paragon. I plan on working for 5+ hours tommorow, or until I get to reinstalling the clutch fork. I know as soon as I start putting things back ON to the car, I'll be driven to stay up all night working on it.

Not too many people would have the nerves to start an 20+ hr job like this in this time of the year with the facilities you have available.
The clutch is among the worsest things to do on these cars without car lift.
The enhousiasm will return once the job is done, beleve me.
