Default Visual differences between 2.5 S engine and 3.0 S2

How can I visually tell an engine is a 2.5 S or a 3.0 S2? The engine bays seem identical to me.

Yep.

Look at jstand22's avatar....see the black airbox on the right of the pic that says "16Ventiler".....the S2's airbox is behind the nose panel therefore it doesn't have that box in the engine bay.

to be 100% sure you need to take the engine code.
S2's start with 42 K,L,M...
S numbers start 42 J,H

Upside down AFM is another good sign of the 3.0 16V.
