Fugg! Here's why no one will make a 275/35-17 tire...
I e-mailed Yokohama and Kumho [hoping they were gullible enough because they make so much crap anyway] and here's one response:
"There is an industry data base which tracks the volume of tires sold by size, speed rating etc. Of the 85 sizes of Z & above speed rating sold in the USA the 275/35R17 is not one of them. Nor is the dimension box, 625mm OD x 275mm SW, which would suggest the potential of introducing a new size. So, it is unlikely that the market would even be 1000/units per year. This means that the price would have to be very very high, $1000/tire?, to make money and then nobody would buy it. While price potential, profit, and volume are not the only considerations, one has to think about them seriuosly. Since this size is not in the data base, it is not likely to be sold in the USA by anybody.
I have one idea - call TireRack, they are the most important high performance tire dealer of all major brands in the USA and if anybody knows, they do!
Otherwise, best of luck, Frank"

Resurrecting this one...
It's been nearly 10 years since this post. Does anyone know of a source for 275/35 x 17" tires? This appears to be the ideal size tire to run on a narrow body car. I'd love to get my hands on a set!
