Post For anyone interested - O2 sensor (plus a quick question)

For anyone interested, here is the correct universal O2 sensor that was listed by Zucker in a thread a month ago. I just bought mine from NAPA - $67 incl. taxes - here's a pic:

It came with no instructions, so I haven't a clue how the universal connector works - can anyone tell me?

you use the gray butt connector on the wire. the yellow things seal the wires into the black box.

So you
1)locate the factory connection (at the back of the intake)
2)take a look and see its tortuous path to the downpipe.
3)unscrew old sensor
4)The best way to thread the new sensor is to cut the wires off at the old one on the bottom, then tape them together(old & new wires), unplug the connector and pull the new wires through. You need to cut off the old sensor b/c the space is too tight to allow anything more than just the wires through. (its a PITA to rethread it)
5)Screw in the new sensor
6)cut the factory connector off the old wires and leave yourself a few inches of wire to work with.
7)trim wire on universay sensor if needed
8)strip both sets of wires
9)on each end of stripped wire leads add the black housing (orientation is important for gray/black); then the yellow plug; then the male side of the gray connector.
10)screw both sides of the wires into the gray connector, make sure it's tight/
11)slide down the yellow and black pieces until it all fits together snug and snaps shut.

That's it! Just be most careful when threading the new wires so they stay away from the greatest heat sources.

I ordered mine from Paragon Parts for $54.61 + $4.99 shipping. It came in 3 days with instructions in 3 languages.

Haven't hooked it up yet but I have tried to remove the old sensor at the exhaust. It's a PITA !! Not much room. Takes a 22mm wrench. A shorty wrench doesn't give enough leverage. Haven't gotten it lose yet. Any hints?

I just did this, couldn't get the original sensor out either so i bit the bullet and used some of the money I saved by buying the universal sensor and bought an O2 sensor wrench. Thanks Zucker!

Man! I must be the lucky one on the BBS. My O2 sensor came right out. No hassle at all. If it was ever replaced (I don't think it was judging from it's condition) whomever replaced it put anti-seize on the threads. I just used an adjustable wrench to remove it!
I didn't think that threading the wire down to the exhaust pipe was all that difficult either. Again, I have an S2 not a turbo and I was using a lift so I am sure all of that contributed to the ease of the procedure for me. Good luck guys. Your new O2 sensor should already have anti-seize applied to the threads but if it doesn't make sure you put some on.
