Post Going to Colorado... '89 951 Purchase

Thanks to all of you for your advice on the '89 951 purchase in Colorado. I think I drove the guy nuts with all of my questions about the car but oh well. Rather too many than not enough. I'll be driving to Colorado at the end of next week to do the final look over and buy it(if no surprises). The guy had PPI done at a Porsche dealer and I actually talked to Porsche mechanic that did the PPI today, he said the car is a great example of the breed inside and out. He said that he's been working on Porsche's for 18 years and this one is in top shape mechanically (of course what I wanted to hear).

I've taken the advice from many to drive out there with nephew in tow and do the trip right. We'll be taking my '86 944 out there and driving the two back together. I can't wait... it will be awesome racing him back all of the way to Michigan. We're thinking of buy 2 radar detectors for the trip (never broke down and bought one before) & two of those little hand help walkie' talkies you can get relatively inexpensive at Walmart.

I'll be taking I-80W pretty much all of the way to Denver. Does anybody recommending and stopping points with cool inexpensive things to do with my nephew... would like to make this a trip to remember.

I'll post pics of the car when I return

Sounds amazing! Don't let him sell the car before you get there!

I-80 doesn't actually go to Denver but you probably know that :-)

Good luck!

Not sure if you're a military buff or not? There's a cool little museum just off the interstate in Lexington, NE. stopped there last week.. They have the 1st hummer prototype on display (nothing like the production version)! They also have a kubelwagen and a schwimmwagen, pretty interesting, along with several other vehicles and equipment... Other than that Nebraska is a pretty dull drive !!!

Basicly Wiezen is right, not much to see in Ne, there are two things you might find intersting. In North Platte there is a Buffalo Bill Cody museum, if you like western history. In Sydney Ne is Cabela's for the outdoor fans, well worth the small detour to stop and see. One additional advantage of the Cabelas trip is you will then come into Co on a two lane highway great for road testing your car!

Have a good trip

You can normally make pretty good time across Nebraska, the limit is 75 and folks run 85-90 regularly. Eastern CO looks like an awesome testing area but be warned. CO runs Z-28 Camaros out there as pursuit cars. I suspect they would like nothing more than an opportunity to chase that Turbo

Take a jug of water and a qt of oil... just in case. Get's hot in the plains, and climbing the hills from 70 into Colorado. Radio Shack has a set of silver and black 2 way radios for $50. Get them! I needed some cheap ones to shoot the vids for my site. To my suprise, they have about a 3 mile range, and are very clear inside of that.

If you get the tickle to take 70 most the way, you can open her up just outside of Kansas City. KS. Buddy of mine went to school there, and I blasted 70 west at 125-130 in my Talon TSI for about 45 miles. We passed a copper doing 85 and he did not come after us.

Do that in South East Ohio and they string you up in a tree, and holla for the good 'ole boys to take care of you.
