If i've learned one thing about working on cars, its this. The proper formula for estimating is:
Logical guess + few hours for error X 6 (just because there is some crap that always breaks or you forgot your haynes manual, or a tool, or you took too long of a lunch or... maybe thats just me!)
Good luck. Lots of pictures!!! <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" /> </strong><hr></blockquote>
I might add another formula of estimating required time:
Multiply your intial estimate by three and move to next unit...
ie Two days become six months... <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />
Anyway,good luck guys,your idea is insane enough to work!! <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Anyway, the more parts we swap the less we have to worry about something on the other guys car breaking.
And last, it is going to be good time to give the car one hell of a once over....

I, myself, am looking forward to a long narrative and pictorial account of the process so that I may use for future endeavours. You never know then this "crazy" information may become needed and...........walllah! By the magic that is Rennlist it is available and ready to be used. Wrench on, Ian. If I wasn't using "Quick Reply" there would be a smiley hoisting a beer to you here.

well, well, well. Day 1 ended up being fruitful.
We worked at a relaxed, but steady pace and managed to completely remove the front and rear suspension on both cars, totally reassemble one car to driveable condition, and closed out the day with the other car on the lift, front suspension completely installed, rear assembly in place (but not torqued) awaiting axles, brake line reattachment and bleeding, and exhaust installation.
I drove one of the cars home at midnight.
Not bad for a couple of Joe's, some Wendy's. some Pizza, some coffee, some beer, and a bunch of neighborly interruptions....
We'll finish up the other car tomorrow, and perhaps work a bit ahead into Weekend 2 stuff.
So far, so good! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

I do agree with keith and day one went very well, in fact I would say better than planned, both cars are close to where we wanted to get them for day two, and hopefully tomorrow we will get a little in front of the schedule so if we run into any problems (knock on wood) we still finish at the three week point.
There will be more to follow, but for now it is late and we have more work to do tomrrow....

I think it's a fine idea. Cheaper than a paint job, unless you find a problem... and you'd have to pay for the problem anyway.
Pictures would be very cool, when you get a chance. Good luck.

Well, here is the update: Weekend 2 became a short, one-day weekend, because honestly, we didn't want to spend the whole weekend on it, knowing that NEXT weekend will be a SLAMMER!
So, we didn't accomplish everything on my list, but the cars are legally transferred, and each was driven home by its corresponding updated owner.
On the red car, there is a bunch of little things to tidy up that weren't finished after my recent paintjob - wiring the mirrors, mounting the rocker trim, finishing the under side of the 931 hood conversion... Also, we need to make a brake-pad warning sensor bypass for one of the wheels, and there is some soldering to do to the wiring harnesses on the hatches of each car.
On the black car, I have some factory wiring for the radio to repair (anyone have a factory connector lying around?).
I ran into some kinks during the work week between weekend 1 and 2, and haven't finished aligning the red car - that is, it is in alignment, but not properly adjusted at the camber-plates (and I believe the steering wheel is mis-indexed?) We will have to find time between the minutes to straighten this out to stay on schedule. (On a side note: I believe 500# scoilovers, when properly damped, can be used on a daily driver. 350#-400# are probably more comfortable, but 500# coilovers aren't out of the question.)
The items that we WERE able to mark off of the list today were: swapping shifters (lever/****/boot), consoles, seats, shift linkages on trannys, and hatches (man, did I miss something?)
Next weekend will entail pulling both intakes, swapping turbos, moving the GURU MAP stuff, updating the exhaust on the red car, and swapping the rest of the exhaust systems. This should get the red car out of the door. Then I can settle in to doing a front end reseal, belts, oil pan gasket, rod bearings, rack rebuild, and installation of the IceShark Headlight kit on the black car.
After making a few passes to the alignment shop in the black car, and lining up with Ian today after leaving the shop, I can say that returning the K27/6 and the MAP stuff is GOING TO SUCK . There is a significant improvement in speed and power with this set up (either thast, or Ian had the parking brake on... Ian??)
Between the house purchase, and coughing up dough for track events this year, I'm not sure how I'm going to budget for those items, but I must figure out a way! It is going to HURT to drive a flapper-box K26/6 now. The black car is fast enough to make me regret forgetting to snag my radar-detector from the red car before heading home...
After the conclusion of our scheduled swap dates, I will still have to get some motor mounts put in the red car (as promised), and move the Central-Locking and cruise control functions over from the red car. I'll also help Ian with an AC-delete, so I can use the abandoned parts to rectify whatever issue there is with the AC on the black car as well. HOWEVER, this stuff falls OUTSIDE of our scheduled workload, so we are still pretty much ON-schedule...!
BTW, I want to thank Rennlister Billy Webb for stopping by to break up the work day for us today - I needed the break, 'cause Ian is some kind of slave-driver! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> (Herr-taskmaster!)
