Default Proper Hose Clamp

Hi guys, first post here. I've owned my 944 for four enjoyable months, so I'm just getting my feet wet. Searching the forum has been a great help for my issues so far.

I have diagnosed a problem down to my throttle position switch (TPS), which I am replacing. In order to remove the throttle body, I will have to replace the one-ear Oetiker crimp hose clamp indicated in the attached image.

Is it necessary to use the same style clamp for the replacement, or would a smooth-backed screw style clamp be okay? If it must be a crimp clamp, how can I determine the appropriate size? I have seen some posts stating that Oetiker was chosen purely for manufacturing reasons, and others suggesting design/performance considerations (i.e., pressure ratings).

Thanks very much.

Welcome wolff, and congratulations on diagnosing a problem on your own and becoming a member before your first post. Any hose clamp should work fine.

Screw type is fine. www.McMaster.com sells the proper ones that dont have the slots in them.

The Oetikers are necessary in only a few places I've noticed so far, like the hose connections for the windshield washer that get stuffed inside the hood (due to space). Other than that, quality screw-type clamps or, in a pinch, worm gear clamps ought to work just fine.

Unless they are aviation grade clamps (and even then that's a pretty stiff price) they are likely designed and marketed to the same type of people who buy the "stainless steel look" braided slip-over hose covers with the "billet looking" hose clamp covers.
